I personally like the XD's. They come in all flavors too
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Have your wife try a Walther P99 or HK P2000. I think she'll find the Walther to be very comfortable.

        +1
My wife loves it, she also loves the 1911 as well, both have smaller grips.

          Glock for the Wife

I had a Glock 23 in 40 cal. Had no use for it so I loaned it to my sister. She said it was the best feeling pistol in her hands that she had ever held. So you might want to try that, but in 9mil

I think if you let your wife make her own choice, she'd probably end up with a .22 semi-auto. I know my wife would prefer that.

I have big hands, and my wife's are very small. (The span of the tip of my middle finger to thumb is 10", my wife's is 6 1/4".) We both shoot a Wilson KZ-45. That's got a reputed "big grip", but of all the guns we tested, it fits her best.

We started with a Ruger Mk II for training, and worked through the only other guns in my inventory that I would have suggested (with light homemade loads first). I started her out with a S&W 19, a S&W Airweight (revolvers purely to be "objective"--I'm a 1911 fanatic) and then the semi's--a Browning HP, a couple of 1911's, and the KZ-45. She didn't like the revolvers at all; 6" S&W was 'way too end-heavy for her taste, and it took too much strength to pull the trigger and maintain control of the guns. The BHP with its' Pachmayrs was "too bulky" (Huh?? howzat, compared to a KZ-45?) She thought the 1911's heavy, but not as end-heavy as the 6" S&W.

One problem eliminated the BHP and 1911 models almost immediately--her hands are perfectly sized to align the end of her thumb with the magazine release with a good grip, and about 50% of the time, she'd drop a loaded mag either before or during the actual shot.

However, the KZ-45 is so much (??) bigger around than the BHP that she can't drop the mag without altering her grip. So I trained her with gradually-increased homeloads 'til we got to Winchester Whitebox HB. It took about 7 weeks of shooting, twice a week. She had a quite a bit of trouble in the beginning racking the gun to lock it open, but I stopped teaching her the "push w/ one hand, pull w/ the other" method. I told her to pull while she punched out somebody's lights; she's much more vigorous with her motions when she envisions it that way.

I think the moral is, find a range and rent a *buncha* guns. If she's real shy about recoil, try and get some powder-puff loads in each test caliber. They don't even have to cycle the gun; it makes for great training to learn to clear the jams.

I was looking at Glocks and Sigs, the XD just felt so nice in my hand.

Wife has a Walther P22, However she'd rather shoot my XD9.........I suppose I can give her the XD and find myself another toy

Maybe that Sig p226 is calling........
