I stick with standard calibers to keep my ammo inventory at the minimal , no oddball calibers, too much trouble to resupply

the same with firearms , I like to be able to share ammo with my other firearms that shoot the same ammo or use the same magazines

Tried it once. Got down to 5 or so. Only thing that really worked was sticking to 9mm handguns. But the minimal... fail.

Minimalist? Blasphemy. At least if you're a gun nut like me.

It takes a lot of self control to both be an enthusiast and a minimalist.

I’ve found it’s easier to not buy than to sell something. Once you have something you just don’t want to let it go. I’ve cut down a bit though. 5 pistols, 8 or 9 rifles (getting rid of two of them), and a shotgun. 5 of the rifles could be replaced with one good bolt action rifle in an intermediate caliber.

I think minimalism was invented by people who couldn't afford all the toys they really wanted!

The closest I've come to the minimalist approach was getting rid of Russian calibers and calibers that are a solution looking for a problem.

Only have firearms under 25mm in calber - that's the minimum.

I did starting out. The only common caliber I don't have multiples of is the 22 and the 12g. My friend is trying it with one of each 9mm, 310 and 22.

The bare minimum is a handgun and long gun in any category with at least 1000k rounds.
Then you build/tailor around that, to what your needs and wants are.

For me it’s 1 sub compact handgun, 1 full size handgun, 1 semi auto rifle, 1 shotgun (pump/auto). Then perhaps something for long range (bolt gun)

                        But..... I thought a .22 and a .38 is all anyone needed.

                        No?

This is the United States of America. We don't do minimal here.

Sounds like someone who got excited about guns back in the day visiting all the gun shows and gun shops and couldn't resist temptation.. Guns, canisters of ammo and cabinets full of parts.

Then, things change, years roll by and they begin to loose interest in the "hobby" and they begin to regret those expensive purchases and think about just keeping the basic examples for defensive purposes only.. Some sell out, some don't because of the hassle involved with selling while some regain their interest after a life changing event.

Several posts here on Calguns over the years exhibiting that phenomenon.

If I lived in a small apartment , I would definitely become a minimalist

no place for a large gun safe, less storage space, etc

If I was an apartment dweller, I would only have a couple handguns, maybe one long gun, and a small safe
