    No, getting the letter does not mean registered, It just means that they issued you a serial number. You would still need provide the documentation and information that would be noted in the letter.

    As someone said above, it's not worth it anymore.

    The only 80% that I would consider worthwhile would be an aluminum frame 1911, and that's mainly because there aren't any affordable light weight 1911's on the roster. If you do this prepare to spend HOURS milling, and fitting parts and I'll say that most people don't have the patience.

    A hoe built 1911 was more cool when you could choose your own serial number but I guess it's still cool because it's actually a very challenging and rewarding project.
