    Maverick 88 shotgun?

Posted here because the shotgun forum is mostly trap and skeet weenies.

How good/bad is this shotgun? I heard there was a petition being circulated to get Walmart to stop selling guns, which makes me want to buy a gun from Walmart.

I'd rather get a Raptor Shockwave grip "firearm" but they don't have any. They do have a Maverick 88 for $188, which I think is a bargain version of the Mossberg 500. Are they any good, or are they too "bargain"? I might want to fix it up a little, maybe for 3 gun-ish.

And if I did get one, can I convert it into a "firearm" with the 14" barrel and a Raptor grip? Take note I'm not in Cali, so only Federal law would apply.

Good shotgun. I prefer my 870 Police so I sold mine.

Love mine, Mossberg/Maverick guns have always performed well for me and people I know. Not the prettiest but after a few hundred rounds they’re slick!

If you really wanna put accessories on them, better to move up to a Mossberg, as the forend on the Maverick is simply pinned to the rails and can’t be swapped out without $50 worth of parts. The Mossberg 590 would allow for magazine extensions too.

Oh, I always assume a mag tube can be extended. Bad assumption, apparently.

You can't extend the mag tube on a 500 either. I know, I've tried. You can only do that on the 590.

Regarding the Shockwave/Raptor. It's a dumb idea unless you absolutely, positively must have a real short weapon so you can hide it somewhere. Otherwise it's a terrible idea.

Chris takes a look at the Mossberg Shockwave shotgun. Find out in his review and video why he believes the shotgun is "worthless".

Sounds like a perfect trunk gun !
Trunk guns by definition should not be something you would feel lifelong pain if lost, stolen or even police consfication .

There is also the thought that maybe a stupid non gun owning neighbor might need to borrow something in case of social or political un rest. " Sure Pal, heres the Maverick "

I have one, I put a chainsaw pump and pistol grip on it. It’s not practical but it’s the one everyone wants to shoot lol.

I am pretty sure part of what makes the shockwave type, short barrel, birds head grip shotguns legal, is the fact they come from the factory like that. If you change things around after you buy it, I don't think will be legal without a tax stamp. Then again, I have been wrong before.

                    Well that's depressing.

Meh, I disagree. I've seen videos on it and I've short short (16") barreled 870's. I think it can be perfectly useful.

Nah, I already got a trunk gun that's better. A Shockwave would probably end up my front seat gun.

edit: Oh, you mean the Maverick. Too big for a trunk gun.

LOL, my white trash neighbors would be more likely to be the ones I'm shooting than giving a gun.

My HD pump gun is a Maverick 88 in a Bullpup Unlimited chassis. I shoot sporting clays with it, once.

Don't know a thing about American Tactical S-Beam Pump, but they are on sale at Turners for $150, usually $200. That's a cheap gun.
Says its compatible with 870 after market accessories.

For decades, milsurp rifles - M1917s, Lee-Enfields, Mausers of every shape and size - made up every gun shop's bargain bin, and were pretty close to literally a dime a dozen. Many of us remember the age of the $70 Mosin-Nagant at Big 5 like it was yesterday. But those days are long gone, and the age of the milsurp-rifle-as-poverty-blaster aren't coming back. These days, the standard recommendation you'll find for people who want BD (Basic Defense) on a budget is the Maverick 88. It's the Subic Bay hooker of guns - cheap, available, and reliably bangs when you need it. Buy in confidence.
