Security guards ?

Most securty guards are poorly paid. When I worked security for the Trolley here we were only paid 3 cents above minimum wage or about 9.03. Armed guys were paid a whopping 10.50 an hour. The only company that actually pays a decent wage is Paragon but that's only because they do government buildings like the VA and DEA.
You really expect a guy or gal making slightly above minimum wage to protect your life or even be enough of a deterrent to a shooter? Most of those guys aren't even really trained to deal with that stuff.USMC '05-'09 - 2111 - Keeper Of The Cold Steel

So one more cost for the business owner with no return.
Just because business can write something off does not magically make it free or even affordable.
In fact it has a negative return because customers will view your business as unsafe if you have to hire security.Only slaves don't need guns

Many places around the world have the visible presence of armed security guards. Hotels, jewelry stores, airports, banks, luxury retailers, liquor stores, fancy restaurants, etc.....
I see no problem with the US doing the same thing. It doesn't cost much extra and offers the 'illusion' of safety and security. At least it keeps the bad guys wondering if it's worth the risk. You never know, that security guard may not run when the SHTF, he might just go Rambo on you instead.
A lot of those guards want to be cops. So they just might do the right thing.Last edited by k1dude; 08-07-2019, 8:06 PM."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

Many large venues here in Utah hire off duty city police officers for security. Cineplexes, malls, stadiums etc. They wear their police uniform.. A win win..Comment

when i lived in CA i used to converse all the time with the security guard employed by the BofA i usedWe changed banks from Bank of America after they said they would not loan money to any company making AR rifles.
Yesterday we went to a new bank and noticed an armed security guard at the entrance. He politely opened the door and greeted us.
I gave him the tip of the day " If you see a masked rifle toting person, shoot for the head or femoral artery" He laughed but it got me thinking.
Why isn't there more private security at places where lots of people are shopping or worshipping, etc?
he was armed with an old .38 revolver and one day i asked him why not something with more rounds, perhaps a semi-auto
he told me that BoA wouldn't allow their guards to use anything except the .38 caliber revolver - it was all about liability and from that i determined that he was just there for optics, might work out ok shuffling away the homeless people or some of the rift raft but if the SHTF dude won't be much of an obstacle
really couldn't say i'd blame him for not trying to intervene - im sure he'd be the first one to get thrown under the bus if it didn't end wellOriginally posted by BarangI! hate! you! FalconLair.

A gun man- or Team can kill everyone in a bank.... it's cheaper for the bank to have guards who are prohibited from shooting....
No one has any obligation to keep you safe...
Democrats say your have a RIGHT to FEEL safe.
We are not europe or israel where lawsuits for wrongful death get settled for $10K.
It could cost the bank hundreds of millions should a guard engage a bad guy
security guards are to keep our moms shopping at malls as they FEEL safeRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

My son is working armed security. He makes a bit over $15 an hour. In his place of employment and with his certification, he can carry any handgun in .38/.357, 9mm, .40 S&W or .45 ACP. He carries a Kimber 1911 in .45 ACP with 10 round mags. This is the same gun he has competed with so he is pretty good with it. Only once has he not made a perfect score on his qualification shoots...he dropped one into the 9 ring once. (He leaves in a couple weeks for heavy equipment operator and crane operator school.)I worked armed security for a while when I was younger..the pay sucks especially considering the risk..for most armed security is a temporary job... many are trying to join with law enforcement.. conversely hiring off duty police is expensive. Lots of liability with armed guards. In addition, California in most cities is a difficult place to find non LEO's with conceal carry permits.
In San Bernardino, it is virtually impossible to obtain a CCW for employment purposes as the Sheriff likes to keep those jobs for the sworn officers in his County. The pay for those, of course, is higher.Comment

As a current armed security guard I can say this, the main reason most places dont hire armed security is cost. You should also expect to see less armed security in the future as there is a shrinking number of guards licensed to carry firearms. The permitting process isnt difficult at all but it is expensive and takes at least 3 months to be approved by the state. There are also requirements for all new armed security guards to undergo a mental health test. All of this has lead to a shortage of qualified candidates and security companies having more and more difficulty filling their armed positions.Comment

4 years unarmed at a populated shopping mall
2 years armed doing section 8 housing
8 years armed doing federal government contract guard
Money/cost, liability, and incompetent/lazy guards who will be the first to run when SHTF. All security positions are a revolving door and never a career (very few exceptions). The pay is low, no benefits, ****ty hours. It seems the noteable security gigs are if you're retired LEO with a CCW or doing military contracts overseas. Even then, those 2 are moreso "work your butt off few months and cash out, then dip"Comment

I don't know if those figures are accurate? If they are and Bank of America's revenue did go up nearly 11%. Im not certain it has anything to do with their policy of not lending to AR manufacturers.

I would guess it has more to do with the stock ownership Bank of America enjoys during the Trump administration.
The 3 major elements every bank needs are #1 deposits #2 deposits #3 deposits.
While losing a few piddly 6 figure accounts, brokerage, checking and credit cards did not kill Bank of America, it didn't do them any good either.
For the record Bank of America has been silent since the stupid policy of targeting AR manufacture's, after the Obama admin guaranteed Parkland murderer passed a background check to buy the rifle he used to murder students in Florida!Comment
