laxammo oc ran out of the serbian ppu, but they have some 150gr Aguila for 13.99/box maybe less if you buy a case.

i never tried this stuff myself so i have no personal opinion on how it runs.

This is what I'm talking about. TargetsportsUSA had this stuff for 10.99/box. Why such a big difference for in store price from a large dealer like LAX? They could sell it for 11.99/bx and still make a profit given the cost of ammo nowadays. I just don't understand why retailers are still gouging on 308.

Me thinks low priced ammo will very shortly be a thing of the past here in the golden (shower) state.

Reloaders are next when the (govt pinheads) figure out they're circumventing the king's law by rolling their own without written permission or fees. I can hear their maniacal laughter now.

              308 is a wild round

I had some CAVIM Ammo- brass cased stuff that would shoot 4” from a gun that would shoot 1/2” with gold metal match.

So the ammo is either hunting grade, match grade or some other grade surplus.

One use to be able to buy surplus 308 at turners. Well 7.62x51 not .308
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

retail brick and mortar stores in california cost lots of money to operate.

personally i will pay more to keep these stores open so they remain an option for me, my friends and fellow shooters.
there was one other customer in the store when i was there, on a saturday.

similarly, i don't shop at walmart.

The Aguila ammo has been good to me in my M1A and Savage, when on sale I stock up on it. They make both the .308 and 7.62x51, both non magnetic. The PPU is also decent for range run and learning. But yeah, there used to be decent prices but they keep going up.

                    thanks.
i bought a couple boxes of the .308 to try out and see.
they didn't have the 7.62x51mm, which i heard was a hotter load. i would have preferred that since my gun is made for the latter.

Dang...last time I bought factory 308 was Winchester M80 surplus, for $500/1,000 at the Reno gun show. That was years ago though, maybe 2008?? I still have all the brass and have been using it for reloading. Good stuff, very durable, good for the auto loaders like M1A

Recently a Turner's opened near me, they had ppu m80 on sale for 9.99 a box, limit 5... I went on the last day of their sale and they had cases left. I talked to the friendly manager and he said, take as much as you want. I walked out with a case, this was like 2 months ago.

7.62x51mm FMJ PPU at .50 cents a round is a good deal.

For those that roll their own, the FMJ bullet alone cost .23 cents and the powder another .20 cents. Primers & brass are not free.
If Ball PPU ammo isn't good enough then you have to pay more.

Actually, .308 commercial ammo is generally loaded to higher pressure (62,000 psi) than 7.62x51 NATO ammo (60,000 psi).

The opposite is true for .223 vs 5.56x45. For example, early Mini 14's chambered in .223 were supposed to shoot .223 only.

Regarding price, .55~.60 a round is about the best you'll get if you can find it, and I haven't shopped for that caliber for two years. No idea what it goes for now. Or you can buy components in bulk and roll your own for .30rd +/-

I use these URLs when shopping for ammo.

I also keep track of what I have paid by caliber, vendor and shipping/tax.
