Selling Registered AW?

I have a few bullet button "AW" that I registered last year, as I understand I can no longer sell them in California, however can I sell them to someone out of state?

it just doesn't make sense for me to own all these long guns if I never shoot them.

You can unregister it and then sell it

But wouldn't one be in violation of the law the moment one unregisters it (unless one removes said AW from the state first)?

Update: Yeah, I realized that one could convert it to a legal configuration (but I thought no one in the free states would want one in that configuration and/or would undo it later) or disassemble it before unregistering and selling it.

To sell it as an AW in this State to someone in another, it must go thru a dealer here with the proper permits.

Or you could unregister it and make it not an AW and sell it yourself. I hear it takes quite a while to unregister an AW.

You can sell them out of state through an FFL. However, in my limited experience, the prices for AR stuff, right now, seems to be as low as I have ever seen it.

I can't predict the future but it seems like selling now would produce, for you, the lowest return on your investment. I think this applies to selling them in-state or out of state, now. I am seeing entire firearms selling for less now, new, than I paid for just the upper from the same manufacturer 3 years ago (complete firearms also include a federal tax that components do not).

Unless you really need the cash or the safe space, I'd suggest holding onto them for awhile and see if demand (and prices) rebound. It is possible your interest in them would change and you might enjoy shooting them now and then. I say this having only regrets about firearms I have sold, and none about holding onto some I have not shot is 15 years.

With CA gun laws changing constantly, semi-auto magazine fed rifles might be on a no buy list or roster...
Might be worth it to keep it, unregister and spend the next few months by collecting featureless parts.

Unless it's stupid cheap why would anyone out of Calif. want it? we can buy normal/unmodified AR's pretty cheap right now.

Is it an AR? Strip it down and sell of everything but the reciever. Keep it incase someday you change your mind.

Just keep it, not worth bothering to sell it with current market prices. You may just move out of state someday and find you like shooting them.

It’s not a big deal to not unregister as an AW in Ca. Once in a free state it’s just a rifle.

Your lower is worth under $100 most likely.

If you want money part it out. Ar15s are dirt cheap right now and the foreseeable future.
