Owning two of the same gun

I taught myself a good amount by swapping parts on two identical 1911's- one with high wear and issues and one new, tight one. I also have some redundancy in pump shotguns...

If they are more inexpensive models, I'd recommend a pair and a spare.

I'd have 2 G19s (preferable one with the OD frame and one in black) I'd set them up identically and shoot them roughtly equally.

The idea being that Either/or is the primary gun and should the very unlikely shooting happen I still have one after they confiscate the one that was used. (assuming I don't get charged with murder etc) Or should one break I have a spare while parts are ordered (not a big worry either) or should one get lost/stolen Hopefully the other didn't

I got two Bulgarian Makarovs. I got one in a very good condition, and then saw the other one as a part of a very good deal. So one became a collector piece, and the other one's a shooter. With my older guns, I wish I had two of each, since I got some I really don't want to shoot (yet I really want to shoot them ).

I only have a pair in handguns in 1911. I also have 4 M-1A's and 4 Anschutz target rifles. You cannot have too many guns on certain make and model.

Long guns ... too many to list, but I like redundancy there too.

Don't really shoot the HK's or Sig's any more; safe queens now. I went all XD45 so that if I need one in a hurry, no matter which gun and box of ammo I pick up in the dead of night, the functions are all the same and the ammo will always fit. And with an XD, all regular-sized mags will fit all the models I've got.

Two Steyrs. Both M40-A1. Why?

I love the Steyr pistols.
I keep one for the house and one for the regular range use.

That really the only reason I have. The Steyr itself is a well made pistol and I probably need only one. But 'ts nice to know that one is ready to go any any point in time. So I get the last reason is that "I can".

I'm thinking about getting into that cowboy style shooting. If I do, I may get a couple of matching single action revolvers in 45LC

Cimarron will get you consecutive serial numbers; ask your Dealer to contact Cimarron and ask... they are very accommodating. AFAIK, they are the only ones willing to do this (if they have them) with a high degree of certainty.

The TRP Operator, while a nice pistol, just isn't collectible. I don't see much reason for buying two.

As an aside: What is "mint but used condition"? Do you rub it down with Altoids or something?

Very funny, mint to me, is when describing a used gun, it has no flaws externally, scratches, scuffs, rub marks etc. Internally might be a different story but after examining the used Operator it looks in good health.

As for being collectible, well they don't make the full length rail version anymore. Which in my mind makes people think about trying to obtain one, or 2 for that matter.
As is the case with many different discontinued guns.
