That test wouldn't have caught this problem. The roster has nothing to do with safety. Initially it was about limiting the number of cheap handguns for sale in CA. Now it's about limiting the number of handguns for sale.

The end game is having one handgun on the roster as a way to check the box to "keep and bear arms" in CA.

they did a voluntary recall on this some months ago - i went ahead and sent my FN9c in for the striker change out even though I wasn't too concerned about the problem

my FN9c is my everyday carry and it has probably a good 1500 rounds through it - yet to have a battery issue, FTF, or FTE - im not really concerned at all or hesitant to carry it at this point

I believe they used the same striker, the new striker was MIM and has had multiple failures, not sure if they updated it, take a look at the FN Forum

              affects FNS pistols before 2/12/17

FN Service Bulletin: FNS Family of Pistols FN recently became aware of a condition found within the FNS family of pistols that, under a very limited and unlikely set of circumstances, could cause the pistol to delay fire after the trigger is initially pulled.  This condition can only be replicated in FNS pistols manufactured before […]

I think the ND actually did have something to do with the story, but the author did a crappy job of connecting the dots. I believe what happened is that, at the time of the original ND, they thought something was stuck in the trigger. But after experiencing subsequent NDs the department realized that an out of battery situation can later cause the gun to fire when bumped slightly, even if its in a holster. So the original ND was likely caused by that as well.
