I hate to tell you guys this but DOJ does more than just look for AW's and class III weapons...that is the SMALL portion of their work.

Most DOJ special agents investigate serial killers, drug labs, kidnappers, drug smuglers, drug growers, car theft rings, organized crime, lottery fraud, extorsion, arson and a host of other crimes. They have better things to do with more serious criminals. Trust me. And most are really hard working people that ARE good natured and DO like guns.

Why would they have class III weapons with cans?
Because they actually need them. When do they need them?
They need them when they take down that large drug house down the block from yours, arrest that child porno ring run from your neighbors basement or arrest the serial killer that lives in the town next door. They don't want to use them and they would just as soon NOT need them. For them they are a tool for work like a hammer for a carpenter.

I think you need to go to officer.com and kiss some butt there. Around here where the mere civiies are, we are just a little baffled at the totalitarian line the DOJ takes. You'll find more agreement in the other place.

How many carpenters do you know who pick up a hammer on their day off and say, "You know, I think I need to practice hammering things."

The carpenter analogy can only be carried so far, but admit it--shooting full auto and/or suppressed is a fun thing to do. Even non-shooters will pay big bucks to shoot full auto in places like Vegas. Calling them a "tool of work" implies they are strictly utilitarian with no fun factor. Select fire weapons are as much a tool of work as jet fighters, but I bet you'd be hard pressed to find a fighter jock who wouldn't like more flight time.

I would have asked them if they wanted to trade a mag or two... Have not had a chance to shoot FA, much less supressed and FA...

Worst they could say is no.

Uhhh I thought the feds handled felony federal offenses.

I thought the DOJ's job is to assist current law enforcement on ongoing crimes not provide the man power for raids.

Then each city's police department had their own crime investigations unit for those said above until the feds take over it.

Think of the DOJ as the state's version of the FBI.

Ever shoot a short barrel rifle inside a building? Suppressors may allow you to hear whats going on a little better. As far as full auto why not? Thats the way the weapon was designed to be used.
