I would say it was an ND because you were cycling live rounds through a firearm in your house, expecially one that you were working on. As you did later, you should have been using dummy rounds, which would have prevented the possibilty of an unintended discharge.

I had just had an AD. I know people here say AD and ND are the same but in my case I don't believe so.

Thanks for sharing, but I still say ND. Also, never point a gun at anything you aren't willing to shoot. All that said I learned the same lesson a similar way, always use dummy rounds when working on a firearm unless at a range.

I'm probably going to get no support on this, But I believe a ND is when you, the user, caused the gun to go off, such as finger on the trigger.

This was a mechanical malfunction, the gun was mechanically unsound.

Would it make it a ND if I had been loading my gun only once to load it for home defense and it went off due to mechanical failure? If yes then by this logic no one should ever load a gun in their house because you might have a ND.

I was negligent in the fact I was using live ammo, but nothing i did on my part cause the gun to shoot. I still say AD.

thanks for sharing, it took a lot of courage for you to share that with us......hate to say it, but I vote ND............putting live rounds in so you can chamber a round?........we can all learn from your mistake......

I'm picking up what your putting down but I still say ND. Key thing is you were "working" on a gun that you knew was problematic. When you know a gun has issues extra precaution is demanded...

Glad you're okay brutha. It's a damn good thing you practiced at least a modicum of muzzle control or this could have ended very very badly.

My opinion is that if you were loading it once for home defense and it went off due to that mechanical failure, it would have been an AD. It would have been an AD since it needed to be chambered with a live round in order to be useful.

Since you could have used dummy rounds, and did so later, as you said, you were negligent in your handling of the firearm by using live ammo, your actions (using live ammo) resulted in an unintended discharge, which should be considered an ND.
