    Front Sight Membership Questions

I was offered a lifetime commander membership to Front Sight by a fellow Calgunner. I'd really like to take it, but I'm seeing a lot of mixed feedback from people and I'm wondering if it's legit. Seems too good to be true. I've got a few questions I can't seem to find answers to.

    1. Are there any hidden fees other than the $50 background check when someone transfers a membership to me?
    2. Their website says you get guns at cost and ammo at 20% over cost, is that legit and does it transfer with the membership? Also says unlimited stay at the Front Sight resort?
    3. How's the training quality? I assume it's not the best, but is it worth doing?
    4. How does transferring the membership work? I'd be doing a trade for it and am a little weary of the details.

That there is, but that mouse is usually pretty happy before the trap snaps him in two

        1. Are there any hidden fees other than the $50 background check when someone transfers a membership to me? No other hidden fees. They will send quite a few emails but if you choose not to spend money no problem.

        2. Their website says you get guns at cost and ammo at 20% over cost, is that legit and does it transfer with the membership? This depends on the membership level but, but yes legit.

Also says unlimited stay at the Front Sight resort? If and when it gets built. They are in the process of grading and installing utilities. People expect things over night. If you are going for the shooting you will learn and have a great time. Very efficient operation with great staff. Until then stay at Best Western Pahrump/ Front Sight discount is $89 a night with a great breakfast that is served early to get you out the door.Buy from Ammo Supply Warehouse. They will deliver the ammo to the hotel. Great pricing.

        3. How's the training quality? I assume it's not the best, but is it worth doing?
I have been happy with it. Thought I could shoot before I went and have been humbled at my performance. Their stuff is a challenge if you are an average shooter. They teach weaver but they are not dogmatic.
It is worth going. I have been over 10 times. It is enjoyable and I take away something new every time. If you go once and never go back then you will get your money's worth. Would recommend a 4 day to start as day 3 is where you start doing much more shooting.

        4. How does transferring the membership work? I'd be doing a trade for it and am a little weary of the details.

          1. Are there any hidden fees other than the $50 background check when someone transfers a membership to me? Realize the background check is an annual fee for every year you train.

          2. Their website says you get guns at cost and ammo at 20% over cost, is that legit and does it transfer with the membership? Also says unlimited stay at the Front Sight resort? Usually not the best deal you can find but particularly handy if you need ammo while you are there or are shooting their guns so you have to purchase ammo their.

          3. How's the training quality? I assume it's not the best, but is it worth doing? The training is solid, particularly with regard to safe firearms handling. The trick is to get through the basic 4-day class for rifle, pistol, and shotgun. This allows you to take the advanced classes. The night classes around the 4th of July are a great experience.

          4. How does transferring the membership work? I'd be doing a trade for it and am a little weary of the details. Pretty straightforward as Damon1272 outlined. I suggest using a separate email account for their communications.

I spent $600 on a lifetime Front Sight membership like 7 or 8 years ago. Never been yet. Might go some day...if it is still around.

That resort still hasn't been built? I got that pitch 20 years ago.

Training was good, prices were steep.

Did you ask why the person wants to sell it?

I have been going to FS for pushing 20 years. It has been going broke and out of business every since I started. I am not saying it can't go broke but haven't seen it yet.

Tell me what is the trap?

I've been taking classes at FS since 2010. I've spent maybe $500 for memberships for me, my wife and my daughter. Other than meals we rarely buy there, we have spent very little on Front Sight itself.

The costliest part has been ammo, lodging costs in Pahrump, rental car and airline tickets. None of this has been paid to Front Sight.

No only $50 per year for back ground check IF you take a class during that calendar year. No other fees but unless you opt out of emails and phone calls, you will get a ton of emails and calls for latest and greatest deal.

                      2. Their website says you get guns at cost and ammo at 20% over cost, is that legit and does it transfer with the membership? Also says unlimited stay at the Front Sight resort?
I tried to buy a pistol off site, entered all info and told unable to get pistol. I still prefer to purchase from LGS for sake of keeping them open. I have purchased ammo once through preferred vendor but only for use at FS.

                      3. How's the training quality? I assume it's not the best, but is it worth doing?
You have assumed wrong, great training. I wish I could get there more often. Really looking forward to precision rifle class. You are available for all entry level classes but must test out of entry level prior to advanced classes. I'm just a guy who loves firearms and always open to learning new tricks, no other advanced training on my resume.

                      4. How does transferring the membership work? I'd be doing a trade for it and am a little weary of the details.
Create an id with FS, provide payment and user id to transferring member. Member transfers membership, you pay background fee and take class. Process takes a few days as they confirm your identity before giving you user id

No idea what BP is taking about, maybe ask if ever taking class at FS before? Personally, don't care if or not. FS works for me

That's the trap. Free training still cost money, commitment and resources. Call me shocked.

You can buy a membership for $100
There is an annual $50 background check fee
                              Training is good.

If you are an OK shooter now
If you have never been taught to draw from a holster
If you never have been taught to clear doors, slice the pie, been in a shoothouse, it’s good

The course use to be hard

They softened the training and now a lot more newbs, moms, new shooters go and learn.

If you are within a 6 hour drive it’s a no brained to buy a membership

Drive out, train for 4 days, drive home

If you have to fly into Vegas each time, it’s still worth it if you are new to tactical / self defense training.

Gunsight and thunder ranch are a lot more intense. If you don’t have strong fundamentals you can’t benefit nearly as much as if you are already up to speed

                              Anyway you slice it-
$200 is cheap to try it out
                              $100 membership
$50 transfer fee and $50 yearly background check to take your first class.

                              Gun sight classes are expensive.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                              (thanks to Jeff Cooper)
