    Safe recommendations for apartment

Can anyone recommend a gun safe for about 20 or less guns, mostly handguns? I can't bolt it down to the floor since it's an apartment but I hear there's a pad of some sort that will make it so it can't be carried out the door? I'm in the bay area, so I would prefer local stores if possible, or one that will ship and deliver/install it to the spot.

    Thanks.

If you not bolting it down it better be too big and heavy for 2 adult males to carry away or it's useless

The apartment is in the third floor. Do you think a 500 pound safe will be too heavy?

Just about any steel plate that's too big to fit through a door once it's bolted to the bottom of your safe should do.

You can make a foundation with 4x4’s then carpet it. Make all bolting locations have 4x4 supports for lag bolts to secure to. You can add a steel top if you would like if you feel you want more weight.

Make it bigger than you can fit though any door. The carpet will stop it from being slid, size will stop it from getting through the door on a dolly. Having it wider will also help with distributing the weight of the safe.

If possible place the safe in a walk in closet at the back, clothes will hide it until they walk all the way to the back.

I’m on the 3rd floor, your less of an easy grab and go target. I wouldn’t worry about theft as much above the first floor. Stairs are only for the more determined thief.

That's what I was thinking, I wonder if there's any service that can do that for me. I don't exactly have steel plates laying around.

I'm more worried about targeted hits since it's not too hard to dolly the thing out and use the elevator. I'm sure people can put two and two together when you they see me walking in and out of my place with what looks like a gun bag.

You can get a simple box that meets CA rules

Use a magnet to run the studs in your walls, screw a few deck screws into the studs from the inside of your New RSC

Inside a closet is ideal- out of sight is always key
                  Drape a sheet over it

You can get a wyze Wi-Fi camera for about $36 from amazon - camera and an SD card
Set up motion alerts to your smart phone.

Every police department loves calls of a burglary in progress where the homeowner can describe the burglar via a live web feed. It’s not a low priority alarm call- it’s you watching live video feed.

20 guns is a lot of fun rifles
                    Not too much for handguns.

                    What is your budget?
Used commercial safes with a TL15 or tl30 ratings come up cheap on Craigslist.

If you need to move a lot, many smaller safes are easier than a monster

Small safes are also easier to sell than something that weights 2400-4800 pounds

                      Empty the safe.
Place refrigerator box around entire safe.
Now you are ready to transport safe.

Look into a modular safe like a SnapSafe or Zonatti. You can place one in a closet where it would be too big to fit through the door after assembly. If the safe is small enough you can get the pieces inside by yourself. Camouflage the pieces and tell your neighbors you're bringing in new closet doors, a workbench top, new bathroom mirrors, etc.

Bolt it to the floor. The carpet will fluff back up.

If I lived in an apartment I would buy a Zanotti Armor Modular Safe. Bolt it to the wall studs since that can easily be repaired when you move.

No one will know you are bringing in a safe, they will think you just bought some IKEA furniture.

Most landlords will not allow bolting stuff to walls and floors. Consider a rental locker at the local range for some of those guns. Otherwise, if a safe can be lifted in it can be lifted out. And they are.
