Two whole generations grew up without LCMs. The federal AW laws went into effect in 1994 limiting the transfer of "new" LCMs, hence magazines labeled for LE only, and sunset in 2004.

During which CA added their own AW laws that included LCMs in 1999. Soooo... basically, if you didn't get them then, you were SOL. If you were born after 94, there was no legal way to acquire LCMs without an exemption...

So when the ruling came out, that was 2 full generations of folks that grew up not knowing, and well, like everything else, you'll want it if someone tells you that you can't have it.

Likewise, there are plenty of folks that shoot/compete/prep that finally were able to definitively legally acquire LCMs for pistols/rifles that they all know in love that were developed or put on market after 99'.

So in effect, people chose to exercise their basic Constitutional Rights, some for the first time ever, in relation to the 2nd Amendment as far as LCMs, that in itself should be enough of a reason.

        did you read that correctly?

the point is there was no ban on grandfathered magazines. it was never implemented. those who had them either prior to 94 or grandfathered to them from someone who bought prior to 94 are clear to use them.

i never bought 10 round glock mags because i had a pile of standard capacity mags.

now the people who just bought them, when they were legal to purchase are in the same boat as those who bought prior to 94. unless they make standard mags illegal which is almost impossible at this point, CA can use the mags they bought until they pass to the great beyond.

there is a sticky though that goes over the fact that maglocked ARs cannot be used with mags with capacity over 10 rounds. this would be bad and would likely be a felony.

And that is how things get banned in the first place.
          *********

I am finding out that 10 round magazines for Glock are mechanically inferior.

Since then, I have been able to REDUCE my puff loads by 0.5gn of powder (that's a lot by the way, when you are already running puff loads).

It takes 25% more force to strip the top round off a fully loaded 10 rounder than it does a fully loaded 17 rounder. It takes 400% more force to strip the top round off a fully loaded 10 rounder than it goes to strip the top round of a 17 rounded starting with only 10.

DO YOU REALIZE WHAT THIS MEANS FOR load development for Unlimited Glocks here in CA, it means they can be built ON PAR with those top competitors who are FFL's with access to regular magazines.

This is where I'm fuzzy (not being an AR owner).

Can a grip fin, neutered AR with no scary parts use regular magazines magazines?

Can a mini 14 use regular magazines?

A REGISTERED AW AR CANNOT use regular magazines???

The librarian post is best but featureless is fine and registered assault weapons are fine. Only maglocked ARs are illegal to use with standard cap mags.
