i too had a question about them there are 2 types of sks that use detachable magazines

the regular ones with their magazine missing using removable magazines

and the other ones that are modified to accept an ak magazine

during the bullet button days i pondered using a tool required lock and only using 5 and 10 round mags

even a "featureless" SKS with a detachable magazine is an assult weapon.
Careful with FUD on this one. The DOJ does not care if it is SKS model, if it is Russian, Chinese, Yugo. If its a SKS type rifle, they can go after you for a named assault weapon. Nothing to do with features.

No detachable mag SKS in California, and I could be wrong I'm going off memory here but I believe Norinco is banned by name.
