Surprised It Hasn't Been Brought Up

Any anti 2A supporter who uses the argument that AR's are NOT "commonly used" rifles should be shown the numbers on just how many people in this state alone have purchased standard capacity mags this weekend. And that is just one state, not to mention all the folks that own them and have not purchased yet! So much for that argument

        5million sold......

A long read but worth it.

"Since the 1980s, one of the most popular handguns in America has been the Glock
17 pistol, which is designed for, and typically sold with, a 17
        round magazine. One of
the most popular youth rifles in America over
the last 60 years has been the Ruger 10/22.
Six million have been sold since it was introduced in 1964. It is designed to use
magazines manufactured by Ruger in a variety of sizes: 10 round, 15 round, and 25 round.
Over the last three decades, one of the
most popular civilian rifles in America is
the much maligned AR15 style rifle. Manufactured with various characteristics by
numerous companies, it is estimated that more than five million have been bought since
the 1980s. These rifles are typically sold with 30round magazines.
These commonly owned guns with commonly sized magazines are protected by the Second Amendment
and Heller’s simple test for responsible, law abiding citizens to use for target practice,
        hunting, and defense."

And how, exactly, are we to dazzle them with these alleged numbers? No one is keeping track of the buyers of the mags, least of all the State or other official reporting agency.

BTW, ask you fellow CG'ers (you know the few who are buying dozens of mags each) 1000 people buying 10,000 magazines IS NOT the same as 10,000 people buying one magazine.

In short, the number of gun owners in CA continues to drop as a percentage of the population, no matter how many guns and mags that ever shrinking number may buy.

For that matter, point me in the direction to any soldier in any military, or any law-enforcement officer, of any sort anywhere, that uses an AR15 with a bullet-button on it in as a duty weapon.

            Just one.

Every time I'm in Turner's, there's a "new" gun owner, I don't buy that the numbers of gun owners are declining. I'm sure the anti-gun crowd WANTS us all to believe that, just like President Hillary was a lock....

With all the PRO-criminal acts by the state, there are plenty of "new gun owners" seeking to lawfully and responsibly protect and defend themselves and their families. People aren't completely stupid. The ruling hasn't been widely reported, but you can bet as word gets out, more people will enhance their defensive capabilities appropriately. The "cat" is out of the proverbial "bag".

A good portion of the opinion focused on the fallacies of made up limitations on "common" firearms and related items designed to ultimately ban everything. It's hard to know how far that can or will be stretched, but the logic used is sound and hard to argue against (especially with "made up facts").

This must be your favorite assertion, and it is entirely contrary to my personal experience. The last couple of dozen times I have been in a gun store the patrons have consisted of about 50% first time buyers. It is very easy to pick them out. So tell me, what is your basis for making this assertion?

And by the way, isn't it a shame that the Russians also got to Judge Benitez?

^^^^ Completely agree with the above posts. I know more "new" gun owners than I do seasoned gun owners. There is no way the number of gun owners in CA is dropping. Unless maybe the inflow of California 'residents' is that out of control to offset the per capita gun owners.

Question; CAL.BAR has a title of "CGSSA OC Chapter Leader." Can anyone vouch for this?

Is he the only member of that chapter?

Common use and ownership of 30 round AR mags is at the unimaginable level, simple description is “like the stars” AR ownership is also “like the stars”. Even if every gun owning Californian bought one 30 round mag, to me it would be estimated at maybe a 5% increase at best. I know I could be very off on that 5% estimate because there are no hard statistics. Just the knowedge that gun owners usually don’t have just 1 mag for a gun. Some have a few, some have cases of extra mags.

Cal.Bar, your estimate is off. Because you have not even considered that a lot of the gun owning population in CA alone bough cases of unassembled mags when it was legal to do so. It would also be factored that those same people would jump at the chance to purchase as many assembled mags as they can.

It would be more likely that lots of people bought a few mags than few bought lots of mags.

My brother in-law who is misguided and leans far left at times of ideology, owns guns, has lots of mags, dreams of owning all the things CA says is bad and dreams of owning the NFA stuff as well.

I have to constantly remind him when he asks me how he could buy that NFA stuff in CA by telling him he can’t, not legal, prison status on a federal level.

Even left leaning millennials own guns because they hate conservative republican gun ownership.

I’ve seen my BIL and his friends shoot at the range, they can’t even hit the broad side of a barn, then get amazed when they see me banging away targets at 300+ yards

I try to turn them every chance I get. When they say some law is stupid, I say what Democrat pushed it and got it passed.

They also are the ones who will break the law to get what they want or do what they want, when they want... all while telling you what you can’t do.

I made a trip to Reno over the weekend. Not only did I get mags for myself, but I called all of my friends and checked to see if they needed anything. All said and done I got supplies for myself and two others totaling about 50 magazines total... then I got home and ordered what I couldn't find in reno online.
