Gun safe law?

"secure" locked container. I think we all have a moral and ethical responsiblity to make sure our weapons are never taken and used to harm innocent people. A good solid well made gunsafe is a good investment you shoudnt lose money on and many other things can and should be safely kept in it besides guns... Jewelry, important documents etc...

Full disclosure.. I own three high quality safes. Wouldnt have the guns, watches, swords I have without them

My house is secure, I lock the doors. If one of my guns is stolen and used to harm someone, the moral and ethical implications are not on me.

Sorry if this just adds to the confusion, but I believe California does have a law that the gun owner is either liable, responsible, or guilty of some level of criminal offense if a minor (under age 18) gets ahold of a gun and commits a crime with it, and it is determined that the gun was not secured with some kind of a lock (and I don't think a locked front door counts). Also, when buying a gun the gun stores make you sign a paper saying that you have a gun safe at home, or else they make you buy a gun lock.

So, I don't think a gun safe is legally required, but it would appear that there are some legal risks if you don't have either a safe or a gun lock on your guns. In my opinion, all guns should be secured with some kind of lock or quick access safe or something if you have children or frequent houseguests.
