Any infantry guys take Front Sight classes?

I'm an old prior peace-time infantry guy (active airborne enlisted, reserve/nat'l guard commissioned) and I would definitely say I learned a lot in the rifle course. I did the four day and went back for a skillbuilder. It is very similar to the handgun course with the focus on a controlled pair under time pressure from varying distances. You do shoot from 100, which can be from any position, but the rest of the time you're shooting from the standing. I've done the 4-day handgun, shotgun, and rifle as well as a 2-day shotgun and rifle skillbuilder and from this limited experience, it seems the fewest DG's were in the rifle courses.

The "old" 4-day practical rifle, in my opinion FWIW, is really designed for a semi auto rifle with optics. I did it once with iron sights and improved significantly when I went back with a 1-4x.

They added a new rifle course this year, Rifle Marksmanship, that seems to be geared toward non-semi's and more precision shooting. It is the new prerequisite for taking the precision rifle course. There isn't much info on it yet but I'll be taking it next month.

As for frontsight itself, it is a bit like a timeshare, but you just need to know how to work it. Very easy and cheap to get an unlimited lifetime membership and while on site taking classes, the focus is all on training with no pressure at all to upgrade. I'm very happy with my membership.

Have you actually served in a combat arms MOS in the military? Just curious.

Yes. 11B. 101st.

Your unit never do any movement drills? Blank and live fire exercise at fire team, squad, and platoon level? CQB/MOUT? Casualty recovery? Exiting/recovering disabled vehicle? There was much more than ready ups and mag changes that we did.

Any training or structured class is better than going down to the local shack and plinking.

It's it going to be high-speed and dynamic like something from Kaag or Proctor or Haley? - no.
Will you shoot for score, under timer, and practice weapon clearing/malfunctions, etc - yes.

It's a basics class, so expect to work on the basics.
