Help save gun after missing pickup.

So I'll summarize this the best I can. I bought a baby browning from a member here. He has his C&R license I do not. Transfer was done at Evan's in orange. Shortly after the transfer I got news my grandmother was sick and i flew to WA to be with family. She ended up passing away after a few weeks in the hospital. I then drove home some family heirlooms back to socal. I drove straight to Evan's from WA but missed my pick up by literal minutes.

The owner is not able to meet me back at Evan's. I am less worried about the money but that the gun will be turned in to the police department.

Do I have any options here to save the baby browning?

    Thanks.

See if the owner can release custody of the gun to Evans for a consignment sale, by email or fax etc. If the gun is C&R, then Evans can sell or transfer it to you. Expect extra fees (like the consignment commission). Of course Evans has to be willing to play ball.

This would have been better asked in the FFL subforum. They would be able to give you the bad news or the good news. I would ask a mod to move this thread there.

I’m not a FFl but sold a long gun to a guy who didn’t pick it up. If I remember correctly, the gun store called me to tell me the buyer never picked up the gun and it needed to be reDROSed. Technically, they said it was my firearm and I could go pick it up. They said if I didn’t, they would have DOJ get it or send it to them. I contacted the buyer and he reDROSed it.

What reason did the seller give for not being able to meet you again? Did you offer to pay him for his time?

I did. I offered gas, ammo and range time. He seemed willing to initially but seems to have changed his mind.

I'm not sure. Far enough to not want to make the drive I guess.

I'm not sure how far away the seller is now. Thank you. Lost her and my grandfather 2 months apart been a difficult time for my family.

If he's far from the ffl, could he request the ffl send the gun to an ffl closer to him to reduce the inconvenience for him. Then you meet him at the more convenient ffl.

Again, more fees for you, and I have no idea what the gun is worth.

Guns not worth much but I would rather it go back to the origional owner or myself than end up being turned over to the DOJ.

The way they see it, they just got a free gun.

If Evan's don't "play ball" and decides to choose the fate of the baby browning themselves instead of helping fellow gunners out, would that mean it is not an ideal gun store/range? I mean for future reference for people wanting or happen to go there to do business with them? I mean I have considered going there for range time or checking out firearms, but this discussion leaves an ill feeling about Evan's.

All you need to do is look at their past history.
We don't need to say anything negative about them for people to form their own opinion based on past performance...
