Every time I clear a gun and rechamber a round I take a different round out of the magazine. This limits the number of times any round gets chambered.

Why are you rechambering the same round over and over? Your HD gun should be loaded with the ammo that you commonly shoot.Comment
-
Typically the 'one in the pipe' and the magazine I've been carrying are the first to go downrange, followed by a bunch of cheaper range ammo, the first spare carry mag goes in for the ride home, and the previous carry mag gets reloaded. When I clean it before the next range trip, I drop the one that was in the pipe back in the pipe.
Other than that I don't have any use cases where I have to manipulate the firearm much, so it just doesn't really come up.
My carry is either a Glock (19, 20, or 32) or a S&W BG380, depending on factors. For the 380 my range ammo and my carry ammo are often the same ammo."No personal computer will ever have gigabytes of RAM" - Scott NuddsComment

If you find this frigging hilarious
... You're probably on Calguns too much.
(Or like me, way way too much. Thank you for the laughs SarcoBlaster).
As to this thread's original question,
I think woodsy the owl did a YouTube video test on this his answer was "A one, a two, a three tim-Bang."
.. 3 at the very maximum.

I looks like it depends on the pistol you use and type of ammo.Comment

I asked this same question a while back, and I'll give you the same answer that most people gave to me.
If you are carrying the same round and rechambering it so many times that you are worried about setback, then you aren't practicing at the range enough. People who shoot a magazine of their carry ammo at the range regularly (as they should do) don't have to worry about it because the cartridge in question gets shot and recycled every few weeks.
That said, I'd say as long as the bullets aren't visibly setback in the casing then it likely isn't a problem. It should be pretty easy to tell when you look at it next to another cartridge of the same type (or at least it is with my ammo, ymmv)Last edited by CandG; 01-02-2019, 7:54 PM.Comment

Agreed, When I was going to the range every week I didn't worry, then two things changed, For about a year I was going onto a school campus 4-5 times a week and unloading constantly. Also I was only going to the range about once a month.I asked this same question a while back, and I'll give you the same answer that most people gave to me.

This got me paranoid and I started measuring. But after lots of measuring I realized as long as I was rotating and shooting I had little to worry about.
But I like the thin marker line idea. Makes for a good quick visual.Only slaves don't need guns

Setback isn’t the only problem, it’s just the one you can see. A crumbling primer pellet is the one that can get you killed if you need your gun to go bang but it only goes click.
A LEO almost got killed over it. LE has a memo on it. After a couple times chambering I put it in the range bag, not back in the carry or HD gun.

But...
Even considering this, any time I empty the chamber, I also empty the magazine and cycle the round to the bottom of the magazine.
It's rare... probably never... that a round actually makes the full trip back to the chamber before the magazine is fired.- Rich

I also do this. And I wont chamber a round more than 3x if I can keep track of it before taking it out of rotation.Comment

I also recommend not running your ammo through the wash
Not that I've ever done that.Comment

That is hog wash that chambering a round of ammo is going to fail.
I dont think dozens of times is helpful. It only takes one rack of a slide for a bullet to setback enough to what? Blow up? Give me a break. Modern day ammo and guns are well past that.
I rarely chamber. Maybe 2-3 times every 2 months
Stays loaded on me and in quick access safe when home. I will shoot the round in the chamber when at tange.
No, I dont shoot 150 rounds of Hornady at range. I do shoot the same weight 124 grain 9mm in fmj.
I feel no difference and point of aim is the same at 10 yds for me.Beans and BulletsComment
