They took one of the most reliable actions, then made it unreliable.Seems like Americans can't build AKs like the Combloc people.

I don't always buy AKs, but when I do, I buy Chinese Norinco.Comment

Like automobiles, it's not always wise to buy the first production run of a firearm. Better to wait a bit and let the first customers/product testers iron out the bugs.
I also personally think that judging a company not just on the issues their products have, but how they deal with these issues, gives a more complete overall perspective on the quality of their product.sigpicComment

Actually some of us Americans can "build" some pretty awesome AK's.. As long as you are using parts made by the original armories which manufactured the original rifles.
It's the problem with US companies trying to manufacture the individual parts which is the problem.Poke'm with a stick!

Even Sig failed to make their 556Xi work...
I still have hope that PSA will fix it, eventually. Keep in mind, the AK-V is almost a whole new gun. They did not get any Saiga-9 blueprints from Kalashnikov Concern and had to start with only the basic AK receiver shape and FCG. Still too bad they did not catch the issues before shipping these out, though.
I sure hope Kalashnikov USA's KR-9/KP-9 would fare better. I find it very interesting how close their KS-12 is to the original Saiga-12. Surely they could have reverse engineered the shotgun, but part of me wishes they had somehow acquired KC's blueprints of the original Saiga-9 or at least its parts to reverse engineer, and that these parts would make their guns work from the get go.sigpic

I haven't seen any great US made Aks yet (guns that are made with US parts, not parts kits) The PSA guns have had problems, riley defense guns have been failing, and that all us made century gun has been a disaster. Just saw a post by Rob from akoperatorsunion who has been testing AKs for a living, his century VSKA passed even with a no go gauge, the gun blew up basically. Receiver was major bulged like a banana...YIKES"If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." - Thomas JeffersonComment

The only real problem I see is that they may have rushed it to market before it was ready. That's unfortunate, because looking at what they have done, with more R&D, they would have had a great gun and it would have had plenty of buyers.
Issues in the video such as over-travel of the safety, the buffer to shore up over-travel of the bolt, cases and lives rounds getting behind the bolt, the disconnector issue they solved (which should have been found in discovery and testing), and failure to eject problems are all easily fixable.
Too bad.
I don't think Americans build bad AKs; what I do see is rushing products to market in a highly competitive field and suffering the consequences where haste makes waste.
At the same time, PSA will stand by their work, repair what was released, and come back with something good. They are denying the issues and are publicly commenting in admission of their failure. Unfortunately, they may have done too much damage to their own product that if they do get it right, the time to strike will have been lost.
