I impulse bought a CZ 455 in .17 HMR. I was looking for a .17 and ran across it in a shop. I had watched a lot of .17 hmr hunting videos and the CZ cropped up often in the hands of European shooters...

When I saw a Military Trainer in person I fell in love with its classic lines and had to have it right then.

Safe to say when it comes to rimfire bolt guns the Europeans know their stuff.

I also grabbed a 91/30 on a whim at Big 5 for $150 out the door. I learned a lot about the rifle and it's history, and every part as I stripped cosmoline from every part of a completely dismantled rifle. I even took out the sling brackets. Got it together, shot it a couple hundred times then sold it for $200 later. I think I enjoyed wrenching on it more than shooting it.

I also bought a 442 many years ago. I thought it would make good CCW pocket pistol. I live in Alameda County, never moved, I will never be able get a CCW in my life time. I sold the 442 two years ago.

About 5 years ago, my father and I decided to stop by at the Stockade to look around with no intention of buying anything. There was a nice Colt Woodsman under the counter for $550. I thought the price was a little low, especially for the Stockade. Always wanted one but the price always held me back. I restrained myself that day and told my father that if it was still there next Saturday, I'm buying it. The following Sat. it was still there and now it is in my safe. I'm very happy with that purchase and when it becomes time to start selling off my collection, it will be one of the last to go.

I’m planning on an impulse buy this weekend - I guess that counts since I don’t have a decision made yet!

But I’ve had plenty of unscheduled transactions at gun stores - some pan out (NEF .45-70, S&W 19, Marlin .17 HMR) and some don’t (Remington 7615, Savage .25-06, Yugo SKS). Sometimes you just gotta chalk it up to an experience and take your losses.

That’s how Big 5 became my impulse buy headquarters!

I stumbled upon a NIB Springfield Long Beach Operator 1911 about two weeks ago. I have had an MC Operator on my short list for a long time so I took the plunge. In reality they seem to be about the same gun with some cosmetic differences. The LB is probably less common. The LB does not have the front strap checkering like the MC but it does have a flared magwell.

As much as I love my parkerized 1911 Loaded, I have no use for the full length two piece guide rod that needs a hex wrench to remove. I don’t like to modify my firearms with frivolous gadgetry but any 1911 I own will always have a simple and completely reliable GI guide rod, along with an ambi thumb safety Thank goodness the LB comes equipped with both from the factory.

^^^^ For the record, it appears Springfield has reincorporated the LB Operator back into production. So the one I bought is not the unicorn “original” Long Beach Operator, but appears to be spec’d identically to the original one. It is at the same price point as the MC Operator as well.

Most of my impulse buys were done in the 80's .. At the time i said "what did i just do ".. it was a lot of money to me back then ,and i did not have a lot ... looking back i am glad i did ... Now i have Money ,but no real way to get some things i want here in this State .. But i will still buy something on a whim...

Most of my gun buys are good buys. I've been getting into older stuff lately and have found pawn shops and the consignment sections in gun stores to be the spots for purchases. Sort of kind of impulse buys because I have a want list and if I see it theres a good chance I'll get it, I just wasnt planning on it.

Purchased a K6s 3-inch within 3 minutes of seeing it in the glass case...with my wife standing right there! She's a keeper! [So is my wife!]
