Fort courage armory in Simi Valley has a Smith 617 on consignment, I think it was $750 iirc.

I'd keep looking for a shooter grade S&W 17 or 18. It's pretty hard to beat an old K-frame trigger. I recently picked up a Model 17 with holster wear for $450 at a local gun shop. They are out there but you have to snatch them up quick when you find them.

22 Colt Officers Model Match from the 60s. They are out there and can be
brought in from others states they are C&R. You can find a decent one
for about a yard. Same frame and action as the Python. They are heavy but
shoot well with the Python grip and trigger.

before you buy, watch the ads on Calguns. I see them pop up every once in a while. Look for a High Standard Supermatic Trophy or military model. It is semi auto, but crazy crazy crazy accurate and amazing. I sold mine and regret it. Try and get an old one in great condition. It takes target shooting 22 LR pistols to the next level. Just my 2 cents.

              This was mine:

S&W K22 Masterpiece or as SirToast said, High Standard Supermatic. K22 has one of the smoothest revolver actions, Supermatic is just the best semi-auto target gun I've shot.

About a year ago I found a model 17-3, predecessor to the K22 Masterpiece.

So far, it's on the same level of accuracy as my Model 41...thinking I might be at my limit of skill.

Supermatics come up for sale occasionally and are keepers.

                    S&W 617 10-shots. Very fun to shoot.

The frame looks comparable to the diamondback, which Im sure is nice, but seems over priced.

It’s not ,it is the same frame as a Python. The Diamondback is a D frame
                                which is smaller.
