Don't really know, but shouldn't there be some sort of license agreement/purchase that allows the new company use of the original companies trademarks?

good question. I would assume the new Springfield bought the licenses to use the name/logo. Or was sold it outright, I think licenses imply there are ongoing royalties to the original entity, but that may not be the case, ianal.

              From Google search,
In 1974, the Springfield Armory name was licensed to Robert Reese, to form Springfield Armory, Inc., a private company that manufactures semi-automatic versions of the M14 rifle and M1911 pistol. The company is not located in or near Springfield, Massachusetts and has no direct association with the original Springfield Armory. The current Springfield Armory, Inc., based in Geneseo, Illinois, manufactures several of its weapons on the exact blueprints and to identical specifications as the original government-owned Springfield Armory. Springfield Armory, Inc. has expanded its line of firearms to include modern-day sporting rifles and polymer pistols as well as historical American icons, namely the M14 and M1911.

Looks like the Arsenal was founded in 1777 and started producing rifles in 1794.

Off the top of my head, it's the XDs that are Croatian. It's good pistol made in a European country that has gun rights. Some of SA's 1911 frames were forged in Brazil, but I believe machined here, with final assembly done here. Glocks are Austrian but nobody makes much noise about that. Springfield Armory didn't just buy a name, but also blueprints. That's a big deal.

What Springfield Armory offers are some of the best 1911s for the money, anywhere. I own two. I don't own an SA M1, but will one day, because they're also the best modern mass-produced offering of the M1 pattern.

                        AFAIK...
When the current company was created, in addition to buying blueprints & leftover surplus parts, they also bought the name and logo from the Gov.

                          Gen Washington commissioned it !

In 1777 George Washington ordered the creation of Springfield Armory to store ammunition and gun carriages for the American Revolutionary War.
In 1794, The Armory began manufacturing muskets for a young country. For the next 150 years, it functioned as a supplier for every major American conflict as well as a “think tank” for new firearm concepts.

Proving the fact that Donald J Trump was not Americas 1st progun POTUS!
He is in good company however !

It's all about marketing. My "XDs" has the crossed cannons on the slide, but was made in Croatia.

All Springfield 1911's with "WW" or "N" prefix serial numbers are 100% Brazilian. 1911's with an "NM" serial number prefix are finish machined and assembled here with components shipped from Brazil.

I love S/A products, they always go "bang" when you ask them to.
                            Then said He unto them...
"and he that hath no 1911 designed by my servant John Moses Browning,
let him sell his garment and buy one."
And they said, "Lord, behold, here are two Glocks."
And He said unto them, "Meh, it's a good start."

                            Luke 22:36-38 (somewhat paraphrased)

There is - and as I recall, they bought the rights to it.
