I have a few select FFLs I ship special guns to because I've had some customers complain about their chosen FFL passing their gun around like $2 hoe. I also had a very few FFLs damage guns and blame me. Got to the point that i take pictures of the guns I ship to the chain shops. Out of thousands of guns the incidents were under 1%.
When I get guns sent to me for middleman work I inspect and if I see any damage I send pics immediately to the buyer. I've had a few gunbroker sleazeballs take just the right picture angle to wash out damage. New guns sent from distributors or manufacturers rarely show damage. I had a pair of very expensive piston ARs come direct from a manufacturer that were so scratched up I asked them if they were combat issued.

OP, I have not but before I locked into my current Gun Shop. I have waited my ten days and got back a clearly played with firearm.

Box and papers not as I packed it upon purchase, fingerprints etc.

I live in Kern County but do all my transfers at American Gunworks in Glendale.

Place is run by adults and I have run some petty spendy Colts and rare firearms through there. Never an issue.

If you feel your place didn't treat your firearm right. Let us know. It would be a tragedy for someone to run a pristine Python etc. through them and not get it back pristine.

If you don't want to name them, why not post the street numbers of their address? That would be helpful to your fellow calgunners.

For example, if the shop address is 123456 Knucklehead Way, just post "123456". We'll take it from there..........

Never had it happen to me as far as I know. Never personally witnessed it either, but I have heard stories.

End of last year, I started going to a small shop that deals mostly in used guns. I bought an old Mauser from them (the rifle was made in 1917 so literally a hundred years old and had the dings in the stock to prove it!). The guy behind the counter mentioned that he noticed how much care I used in handling the old gun and assured me it would be well taken care of during the 10-day wait.

I suppose I am just in the habit of treating all guns, regardless of cost, with respect. I think that old Mauser was $350 OTD but it was still handled with care, both by myself and the gun shop guy.

So my advice is to try to find a place that you feel comfortable trusting the employees not to mess with your guns. Even if you have to drive a bit further or pay a bit more in transfer fees whatever.

Nope, my LGS is the best group of guys I could ask for. They actually let us feel the triggers and actions on multiple in stock guns from the back, and decide which one we like best.

11-21-18 Called Ruger, Wow! awesome ! Got a new sight on the way.

11-28-18 Sight arrived, ugh ! They sent the insert type sight. Called and had to get the Cust. service managr online. Now I have to wait till tomorrow to here back after a parts tech can check into it.
