was under the impression that people shot food out there. but you make a good point about the bugs. if food's a no go, then i'm fine with that.

and no, i wasn't going to shoot glass.

REALLY? "Organics" draw insects, particularly bee's to the range that everyone has to deal with (long after you are gone) and you organics people seldom clean up EVERY LITTLE BIT.

Bottles? Shooting at glass? Only a MORON shoots at glass. You will never get it all up. based on your post I am surprised you didn't suggest kitchen appliances too...

BTW... EVERYTHING needs to be cleaned up INCLUDING the biodegradable stuff!

Why not just INVEST in some target stands and shoot at cardboard and paper pistol and rifle targets like a responsible adult? These guys are over in Duarte and have everything you need..... https://www.alcotarget.com/

maybe i should have mentioned in the op, but a big part of this is to shoot stuff that is not paper. we're all bored with target shooting and wanted the flexibility to put out our own targets, hence the request for ideas. will be there with a couple leos and their families and some newbs too. i count myself with the newbs btw...
this is a strictly recreational shooting day. nobody's training or anything
      keep the ideas coming.
the bowling pin thing is interesting. what's inside of those? i would have guessed that they fracture into a bunch of small pieces when hit.

This is what a boling pin looks like on the inside.

Bowling pins are typically oak with a plastic coating, so very hard.

We have a cable to hang targets from at our range. We hang three pins about 3 feet apart. See this CG thread I started.

The pins are tough, and should last for several outings. Plus, it's great fun to try hit them as they swing.

What are some target ideas that make for good shooting? I already have organics in mind (eggs, fruits, veggies...) maybe some ballons if im up for putting in the time. Bottles and cans may be fun but dont want to do too much of that cuz of all the cleanup.
Ideally something that can be shot repeatedly but will still react to being hit. Don't want to spend too much time with a cold range.

Restrictions are no metal targets due to fire hazard. The risk is real obviously.
Anything non biodegrable would most likely need to be cleaned up.
Organics? Sounds as if someone has been watching episodes of "Mail Call", "Lock and Load", or "Gunny Time" where R. Lee Ermey was shooting watermelons...

A great memorable quote from the Mail Call movie on Quotes.net - R. Lee Ermey: Watermelon, you will die!

Get some large cardboard boxes and tape some shoot and see targets on them. Easy to transport, set up, and remove/ dispose of them afterwards.

Regular melon isn't that fun, all its going to do is make a Gallagher like mess.

I like shooting at frozen canteloupe to see which rounds drill through, create huge exit holes or crack it half and send pieces flying 30 ft.
