Question about gun ownership

I thought there was a SCOTUS ruling that Government maintaining a list of gun owners was unconstitutional, course something like that doesn't really matter in California.

Federal laws prohibits the Federal Gov from using Federal forms to create a national firearm registration database or national firearm owner database.

Federal laws prohibits local Gov from using Federal forms to create a local firearm registration database or local firearm owner database.

Federal laws does not prohibit local Gov using local forms to create a local firearm registration database or local firearm owner database.

SCOTUS ruled that prohibited persons are exempt from registering firearms because doing so would violate their 5th Amendment rights.


The CA firearm registration system is legal under Federal laws because it is created using CA forms (CA DROS, CA DOJ Firearm Ownership Report, CA DOJ Report of Operation of Law or Intra-Familial Transaction, etc) and not from Federal forms (ATF 4473, ATF 5320.1, etc).

Thanks guys. I guess this would seem like an odd question out of context. It came from a person I know. We were having a conversation about guns. Not political. He wants me to take him to the range to shoot. I asked him if he was considering buying a gun and the conversation went from there and eventually this question was asked.

I was asked by someone if the guns I own are registered to me. I couldn't really answer the question. I don't really know.

I certainly purchased them legally. DROS check was done. Serial number is listed on the DROS form along with my information. But is this information logged in a national database? I don't think so but not sure.

If I am asked if I have guns, I will answer to them what THEY WANT TO HEAR. Which typically means I am lying to them. I will never say: MYOB. That gives them an answer that may motivate them to pursue even further which is NOT in my best interest. If I am asked by a friend whether my guns are registered, the same outcome applies. Whatever answer puts them at ease so they no longer need to pursue any further.

Started as a benign conversation with a guy who does not own guns, wants you to take him to the range, then starts asking about your guns registration status.
