    Iron sight question [confused]

I have the m&p10 and the front gas block is tall. I have the magpul mbus gen 2 sights which does not have the tall rear sight. I was learning how to use the sights today at the range which i felt was a lot more exciting than using my scope as i never learned how to use the iron sights to begin with.

I felt like i was getting to being dead on but couldn't quite get there.....consistently anyway. This is the video i felt i got the most from https://youtu.be/t8hstGtB3QY
When i got home i seen this under images and not sure if it had anything to do with my shooting....or maybe it was just me

I guess the question is do i need the tall real for my rifle? Did i get the wrong sights?

I don't think it's your MBUS. I use them on one of my AR308 builds, same level, work fine for me
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

I dont think so either. I guess i was wondering why this pic says the rear needs to be taller if i have a tall gas block

I thought you hinted that you were on target. If your shooting high, than the rear sight needs to be taller. I think my math is right

        FORC. Front Opposit, Rear Same

Ok please dont roast my shooting. These are 2 targets i used but i could not hit the middle for nothing!. The front sight post was below the target. On another target i could hit the middle the front post was covering the middle of the target which i thought was the incorrect way of sighting.

I don't see anything that makes ME think your sights are the problem, assuming they're original Magpul sights. Lot of cheap copies out there

Ok then ill go back and continue adjusting. Maybe next time ill take the bipod so i can keep the rifle steady. I was standing and holding the rifle. Maybe that'll make a difference. Anyway thank you for your assistance

My PSA rifle also has Magpul MBUS on the same plane, works fine.

Couple of things. Do not use Mag pul front sight if you are shooting with a front sight on the gas block. Ie. heat and potential melting of said sight.

Are you shooting at 100 yards, make sure you are not "canting" the rifle to the left, slight lean. If so then the sights may be on but the bullets do not strike the same spot due to lean of the rifle and difference between the barrel to sight.

Standing? Was this unsupported, 100 yards? For me those would be some pretty awesome groups at 100 yards, standing with a heavy rifle. In the first target you have a tight group. Once you have a tight group just adjust your sights, click by click, to get you on center, i.e., zero the rifle.

Standing unsupported indoor range 25yrds. I suck! Lol still haven't been able to get out to a range with greater distance yet

If your front sight gas block is lower than the upper receiver, you need a front sight that's made for gas block mounted rails. Midwest Industries makes one.

You cannot use just any front sight meant for mounting on a rail.

Still a fair grouping. It's a heavy rifle with a decent amount of recoil. Standing unsupported is probably the least advantageous position to shoot from with this rifle. I would try adjusting the sight s nevertheless.

If you are stuck at a 25 yard range, I’d at least try to shoot supported from some sand bags or whatever you can get your hands on. It’s nearly impossible to zero in a rifle shooting unsupported.

And where did you get the picture showing that the same plane rails are wrong? My understanding was that the vast majority of rifle sights were intended for installation on the same plane.
