    Congrats OP. Good to hear.

The concept of gun ownership should always include an adequate safe. Too many people treat their home as the safe.

Their standard H.O. policy covers "sporting equipment," not guns specifically. There is no separate "gun" policy at all. Default coverage is up to $500 or $2500 depending on the classification of the equipment and ammunition is not covered as it is a consumable/perishable item.

A sporting goods rider for your gun collection is easily purchased and covers 100% of your firearms purchases for ~ 1% value per annum. You have to provide the serial numbers on the policy of all the guns in your collection if applicable. If your agent did not spell this out to you, it's time to find a new agent.

        Congrats OP.

Wondering what the condition of the guns are after they were returned to you.

Are you sure it is a firearms policy? My understanding is that there are increased-limit options that basically double the liability limits of certain categories for a nominal fee. In this case it would take your sporting equipment maximum from 2.5k to 5k, but does it actually reference firearms directly, or is it all sporting equipment?

It's academic, but when you call your agent on Monday, ask if the description for that option in your policy list is agent-entered. "FA Option" doesn't correspond to any option I can find. That leads me to think it's just a convenient mnemonic for a limits bump. The options usually follow the name of the form, like FE-32xx.

It's fine if I'm wrong, but every gun owner should have a specific rider for their needs. Default coverage is so minimal, it's really not going to cover much if you have a collection of more than a few guns.

Glad you got some of them recovered! I took detailed pics and info of all my firearms for this very reason, hopefully I'll never have to go through this mess.

If you have irreplacable guns like RAWs, ask your agent how they would pay that out. My State Farm agent gave me a blank stare when I told him I can no longer legally purchase a replacement\ at any cost. His best guess was they would pay market price, for that model, in a free state. I took the bumped up coverage to $5k and spent many thousands on a proper fire rated gun safe. Not much else I can do.

Interesting question. How do insurance companies insure priceless works of art?

Maybe they think guns that the average Joe Blow would have at home couldn't possibly be worth more than 5K

You can either specify the replacement value if you are able to still purchase a replacement, or get an appraisal with supporting documentation for an agreed value.

I had to do this for my off-roster guns, some of which are irreplaceable on top of being off-roster. In the case of loss, you'll likely only be getting cash, and not a replacement gun.

AWs in some cases would just be compared against a featureless version of the same gun. It's not the insurer's problem that you can't replace the item due to state law. Think heirloom ivory or other banned item. They will give you the equivalent agreed value if you don't want a featureless replacement.

I hear you but it lists a max per firearm on my policy. When I moved back to California, the agent who signed me up explained that my homeowners didn’t cover guns and that I needed a separate firmarm policy. I’ll find out when I call on Monday. And I have to ask him about adding supporting equipment to my policy now anyways

In my case it was my fault I didn't add an additional insurance.

As far as my neighbors go they are the best, I know who the person was that did the crime IMO. The police had a hard time proving it. I was in Havasu for 4 days when this took place and the person I believe broke in moved to Banning...

I still never purchased firearm insurance, I do have a mobile cell phone DVR, sony night vision cameras. I also have my home occupied "Babysit" as I have dogs. As for my neighborhood, its safe, great ppl.

I have to add State Farm did pay for all my accessories, ammo mags etc. I came out OK.

I still have 3 guns on the street, maybe just maybe I might see one or more come back. Criminals are going to be packing, the cops are going to be searching them. A different perspective I have today then when they were stolen.

My point is guns are found, no serials #s removed. It seems like sooner or later the LEOS find them stumbling upon them. Its interesting to see where these guns have moved around. Black market turned over many times. The gun recovered in Arizona was two California career criminals from LA. The ATF had me on a website to follow the criminal progress. The gun was used in many strong arm robberies.

Nothing is priceless, everything has a price and a market for it.
