Agreed
This is why we keep extra screws around. You can get batches of "gun smithing" screws from Brownies/Midway on line gun parts retailer du jour.Comment

Just chase them with a nut of the same size, or just screw them in and out of the mounting plate without what ever you are mounting. Should clean them right up."I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain..."

It's ok that it's hard to install.
If you don't have tools/skills enough to install the screws with the thread adhesive on them, you probably should not be messing with them at all.Randall Rausch

I love the "just burn it off" or "use a torch" suggestions. Scope screws are already low strength without making them worse. So now you have burnt, hardened material stuck on the screw and for sure won't be able to screw them in without damage.
Order a new set from mfr.Last edited by smoothy8500; 09-20-2018, 2:11 PM.Comment

As funny as this may sound I believe the majority of those compounds are actually there for two reasons, One is to aid in the screw not backing out and two it keeps the screw from galling when you install it. Removing it would be the last thing you should do. You have to remember a lot of these screws go into different metals and when dissimilar metals make contact corrosion happens between the parts and creates issues as well. I have had much better luck leaving that stuff on than using screws without it.Comment

Impact gun will help get it in. Make sure the optic is mounted exactly where you want, kink the screw about 15 degrees off angle, and pin that trigger back and enjoy the show.
No, please don't do that. You should be able to thread the screw on with a slight amount of effort. Just make sure you aren't cross threading it.
