If you want an HS precision stock, start by looking at what receivers they make stocks for and work backwards.
All of the $500 class rifles come with a crappy injection molded stock that you will throw away if you want a higher quality (stiffer) stock.

You can occasionally get a Remington 700 Longrange in 30-06 that comes with an HS or B&C stock for $500, but that's an $800 class rifle marked down, not a $500 class rifle.
That's a heavy barreled target rifle.

Good point, I thought that was stated but after reading my reading my response I agree with you, it's not clear.

My main intention for this rilfe is a lightweight Hunter. I will probably bring it out occasionally to the range to sight it in and BLM but it's primary use will be for hunting prone.

I'll be wanting a lightweight or standard barrel not heavy barrel. Hope that clears up my intention, sorry for the confusion.

That's a nice Rem 700 at a decent price. The barrel looks a tad bit heavy but the stock looks decent.

I like the weatherby Vanguard option below it too. Haven't priced one of those out yet.

The Ruger American is only 6 lbs though

Oh, well in that case wait for the sales around the end of hunting season, like maybe right now and see whatever is the best deal. I really want a Winchester XPR for my next hunting rifle. I would prefer a Tikka but those are more $$$. For its price range you really cant beat the Tikka, its super light. Most of the budget guns are the same when it comes to accuracy and reliability, so the deciding factors for me are weight and price.

The Howa in Kuiu Vias is on sale for $400 at Sportsmans Warehouse. No DBM though. Thats why Im interested in the XPR it comes standard with a DBM.

Thompson Center Compass, $300 and below all day long. No having to worry with Ruger fitment issues or Rustington quality control.

Always forget about that one. Might have to pick one up.

It'll weight more once you replace the plastic stock.

https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...ynthetic+Brown This cost more, but you wont have to replace the stock, it has 5r barrel and weighs 7lbs

HS precision makes a stock for the Howa 1500.
                It's 2.35lbs.

Get one of the Howa lightweight barreled actions in 308.
                It's 4.5lbs.
Shop rifle parts (2,603) at Brownells, including barrels, stocks, triggers, and bolt carriers to customize, repair, or upgrade your rifle’s performance.

                  There is this option too;

Cheaper Than Dirt! is America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter, and we live up to that title. Expect bulk ammo deals, discounts, gun care accessories and more

Not a huge CTD fan... For $800 though I feel like I could get a better action though.

For some reason I can't seem to find a prebedded Rem 700 HS precision like that though. Does Remmington not offer one?

Looks like Savage doesn't sell a 110 fcp hs in 30-06.

I'm going to go down to my LGS and handle some mcmillians stocks, hs precision and other stuff to see what I like the best and build it out from there. I think that's the biggest part.

That 22" barrel is going to be a standard weight barrel, not a lightweight contour like I linked.

Remington does not sell any rifles with bedding jobs until you get to their custom shop.
They do sell rifles with HS and B&C stocks and some of those have aluminum bedding blocks in them.

The 700 American linked above is a nice option as it comes in a Grayboe stock.
Grayboe is low end McMillan which is probably a nicer stock than an HS and definitely nicer than a B&C.

It seems a little bit crazy to look for the cheapest action you can find and then put it in an HS Precision or McMillan stock. How much are you planning to spend between the action and the stock?

Seems like you could get a pretty good complete gun for the money, like a Sako or maybe even a Weatherby Mark V.

I am confused. OP starts out basically wanting a cheap beater gun that would work for hunting and range fun and then ends up wanting a gun he can build out to some fancy bech gun.

I was going to suggest the Ruger (in 30-06) over the Savage due to my experience with Ruger and their warranty as well as my time in the field with one but it sounds like OP should up his budget and find a used Rem 700 for all the aftermarket wizz bang add ons.

Well I'll admit I guess I got a little overzealous with options.

I am looking for a cheaper beater gun that I can take hunting. I don't want another bench gun I already have one and it's working great for me. I intend to set this rifle up for prone not bench anyways. I would however like some versatility and I would like to eventually have it be a respectable gun. The stock plastic that comes on the base model guns it's just too much Flex for me. I was thinking a decent upgrade would help the rifle a lot. I didn't think I needed to blueprint the action or anyting, just a stock and scope.

I didn't realize putting an HS Precision aftermarket stock on a lower end action was so frowned upon. I guess I considered a Savage 110 a little bit nicer than a rem 783.

It's not like I'm looking to bed manners stock with a base model action.

I just want something to start off with around 500 and be able to slowly upgraded into a decent rifle at the end. my beginning budgets about 500 bucks right now so I was thinking I could buy the action and then slowly put money and time into it. Am I mistaken on that idea?

This is why I come to Calguns, so I can learn without making expensive mistakes down the road or at least try to.

Looks like I'll be better off with the Remington 700 action and then I can slowly upgraded as I go. I was under the impression The Savage 110 or Ruger action would be similar but I guess I was wrong.

If there is a Sportsmans Warehouse near you, I saw Rem 700 ADLs for sale under $400 last Saturday. I don't know if they're still on sale.

Ruger or Savage actions dramatically limit your aftermarket support.
There are 20-50x more options for a rem 700 than there are for any other manufacturer/model.
