I've given up on Armslist. I'd much rather pay a bit more money than deal with the waves of shady people I've communicated with from Armslist. And I gotta say, iTrader on this site is a pretty big lifesaver for trying to determine if people are legit or not.

I usually abort a transaction if I see any red flags. Out of a half-dozen or so interactions I've only had one that wasn't shady and I was actually willing to go through with - but I couldn't get to where he was located before he got another buyer.

On the other hand, I've never had a bad experience doing transactions through Calguns.

Armslist is basically like a classifieds in a local newspaper (when they allowed gun sales), great for PTP at local FFL, but it is not set up for shipping at all. I would never send any payment to sellers, no matter how good it sounds. I would accept payment from buyer in form of USPS money order only, for $1000 or less, even if buyer has to send more then one USPS money order and I ship only after I cash mo at post office. Some try to send mo for amount larger then the price, tell them no refunds of overage, that is just another scam.
If buyer declines my terms, I have no problem with it.

Money orders and cashier's checks are often counterfeited.

I would never buy of sell anything not FTF on Armslist. I think gunbroker is safer.

I got something on Armslist that turned out okay, but afterward I realized I was lucky.

I may try it again, but not unless/until someone reliable (e.g. an FFL) can vouch for the seller/product.

I, like many, have had 1 experience on Armslist and it worked out for me. I haven't shopped on there since, but I would agree with most people... just make sure you know what you're getting into and cover all your bases. There are scams out there...

Face-to-face only on Armslist. I bought a new in box GP100 4” from a local guy for $475. He met me at a local shop. It was a great deal.

But, I have seen a lot of scams on that site. A lot of the scammers use pictures from Gun Broker or other sites. You can do a google search of the gun you are considering, and if you see the same exact picture on another site for a different reason, then you know for sure it’s a scam.

Unless a FTF transaction, stay away from Armslist. Even for FTF, it's not unheard of for meets to turn into robbery. Use your noggin.

Snagged one on Bud's today. I'll never even look at Armslist again.
