    Fire Near Burro Canyon

The #forkfire is off Hwy #39. The marker in the picture is the lat-long of the fire (you can see the ranges to the right of the marker: https://twitter.com/bbfires/status/1038876360322646016

Must be hot out there. Just heard on the scanner multiple vehicles are broken down, overheated on Hwy 39, creating a bottle-neck.

It's 104 out here, so ya... I'd say it's a good 98 up in the canyon.

Yup, it's closed. The engine is sitting in the middle of the 39/East Fork Rd intersection. With that said, the fire's progress has slowed. https://twitter.com/Angeles_NF/statu...06820524367872

Got called this afternoon from Matt about this, as I had I reserved a range with them, and they would be closed tomorrow and possibly the rest of the week too...bummer. Hope it gets contained soon.

I just heard on the news that people north of the fire were allowed to travel up hwy 39 all the way to hwy 2. This really ticks me off. That road has been passable for years, yet they keep it closed. Its a short cut to our public land and the small ski areas up there.

Come on Cal trans, just open the road for all, not just for you and public servants. Its been 40 years. This really gets under my skin..I was up there last Sunday at the gate above Crystal lake, the forest service and LE went through during the 45 minutes or so that I was there.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Its passable in an emergency, sure. But it isn't a functional 2 lane road

                  Yeah, what he says^

There's constant rockslides up there, 24/7. Caltrans plows it every Sunday morning to keep it "clear enough" to use for the next 7 days.

Yeah, they have been saying this for 40 years, along with that they keep it closed for the big Horn sheep, or as I like to call them mt lion food. The road needs to be opened, if it's not two lane, make it two lane. Up until just a few years ago there was about a mile stretch of hwy 39 just below the Crystal lake cutoff that was only one lane. I believe this was the same stretch of road where that Cal Tran worker backed his plow/doser off the hwy and was killer. CT didn't have any problem making that 2 lanes.

You hope there's a fire up there every year just to keep the firing range small? You do realize that people live up there?

i believe he meant, good to have fires every year, as it keeps the fires small due to smaller amount of brush to burn.

the same rationale behind controlled burns in high risk areas

That makes a little more sense. It seems that almost all of the cabins along the north fork are gone due to fire. That whole area has gone to he'll.
