Calgunner to cop, Why did you pull me over ? I know my rights and the locked gun in the glovebox is perfectly legal according to the US Constitution!

So go away and do not destroy you're career by harrassing a law abiding gun owner!

Personally, I am not comfortable with the Consolevault.
A Gunvault Nano contained within the glove box or console, I have no concern about it being a problem.
The issue is whether or not converting the console (or glove box) to become the secure locking container qualifies.

That is a really great question and I do not have an answer. Others have said the law is deliberately vague and contradictory.
        No doubt by design.

Not by design... out of ignorance.

            I'm not that sure Rich.
seems like a locked glove box or utility area should be legal!
Instead they expressly prohibit those 2 areas and even make it worse where we are not sure how to comply !

How would they know if you have a gun in the locked Console Vault?

Years ago I just bought a small safe off Amazon for around $20. Made of steel and key to open. I just keep the key in console and safe fits very easily under my car seat- perfectly fits my Glock 30sf and a full mag next to it and probably would fit a size up as far as full size hand gun.

I put it in my trunk most of time when parking in random areas.

Before that I bought a neoprene laptop case for $10 and stuck gun and magazine in there and locked it w small TSA combination lock w one number off the combo. That works decent too for me.

PC does not say "cannot be in glove box."

PC says glove box does not qualify as a locked container.

"(A) 'Locked container' means a secure container that is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, keylock, combination lock, or similar locking device. The term 'locked container' does not include the utility or glove compartment of a motor vehicle."

Who makes the strongest lock box but still gives me an option to use a cable tether? Iam seeing horrible pictures of the cheap lockboxes getting broken into. I saw vline but it doesn’t come with a cable tether. Extra bonus points if the locking mechanism is mechanical and has no key

Most of the stronger box manufacturers recognize that a cable tether becomes the weak link to their product and don't offer it as an option. They want you to bolt them down.

It is easy to ad a cable to any lock box that you think will work best for your application. This link Security Cable Kit will show you what I mentioned earlier in this thread.

I can provide the split collar and hexkey to attach it to the cable end and this is where you can buy this heavy duty cable Security Cable. I use to stock this cable in a 4" length with the loop/stop ends for another item, but currently don't have that need. I still have some collars and hexkeys in inventory and just had a customer do the same thing on his FAS1 safe. I have done it several times in the past for customers when I use to stock the cables and have sold quite a few kits when I offered it.

It is 5/16" diameter with the vinyl covering and much harder to cut than the standard (much smaller) cables you usually see on lock boxes.

The hornady rapid safe takes up too much real estate in my vehicle so I returned it

I ended up getting the nano

I'm considering using an ammo box that locks with a padlock.
I will cut a hole in the bottom of the box so one of the strap-down D-rings mounted in the back of my 4Runner will fit thru the bottom of the box, then I'll put something non-permanent thru the D-ring, like another padlock, or an oversized carabiner, or a metal plate, etc., that will keep it secured to the vehicle.

Can anyone advise why this would be a no-go?

                            Perfectly legal.
