For your first firearm. Buy local first.
This way if there are any problems with DROS. You can at least get store credit for the firearm.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

A word of advice: Developing a relationship with a good local gun shop is one of the best -- and smartest -- things any gun owner can ever do. Trust me on this.

I have a question, what handgun are you looking to buy that has a $500 difference between online and a local gun store?

Gary got it right. DW cbob. Checked a few places through gallery of guns and best local spot (within 25 miles) can do 1680. A not so local spot (within 50 miles) can do 1500. There is someone in the classifieds here that can do $1250. Buds has it at $1330.

Budget is $1500 before fees and tax etc

Interesting choice for a first gun. As others have mentioned, FFLs charge a transfer fee - usually $50-75 and they'll charge a sales tax.

Even with that Buds seem like a good price. Gallery of Guns includes all fees, sales tax, and DROS ($35).

Distance to the FFL matters because you have to go there twice. I'm not sure what classifieds, but if you're planning to buy from a private party, I'd get it from someone on this site.

As for your question, you can get your FSC card just before the DROS. I'd rather get it all ready before the gun arrives.

                      Beautiful.

                      Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, I meant the “for sale” section on this site. There’s even one for $1100 that I might jump on, but he’s out of state yet still has an itrader rating of 46. The Davidson’s price. I quoted were before fees.

Thanks for the insight man! I’ll try to keep the gun shop close to home

Well, keep in mind your local gun-store will likely charge from $65 to $100 to receive the gun, and charge sales-tax on top of that, not to mention shipping charges, so you may not be saving any great deal of money by ordering something new through Bud's, especially if it's something new-production and readily available locally.

At best you may save a few dollars, or it might even cost you more than something you can find locally.

And shopping locally, you get to see and inspect the gun in person before buying.

                              .

I'm curious, at what dollar point would you guys order online or buy locally? For me, if its between $50-75, I'll give the local store my business. I have a FFL where they charge $40 for transfer fee so its not really a big deal.
