I had a whole box of them when I moved to Florida. I threw them all away. Sadly I added them up and it came out to around 170.00 that I paid for these stupid silly things.

      bike lock

Tether them to a piece of string and take to an Antifa rally, to fight fire with fire.

It's interesting how almost every FFL has their own rule on cable locks for ppt. Some will make you buy a new lock, some will accept the original lock that came with gun and others will ask what make and model your safe is.

I never used any lock on any handgun or rifle. Complete waste of money. Threw them away..

You can reuse them. Give one to a friend. Buy it back from him for $1 and have him write a dated bill of sale that includes the lock model number. Take the lock and the dated bill of sale to the gun store. Just make sure that the date on the bill of sale is within 30 days prior to taking possession of the firearm.

Okay, I have a very nice collection of them too. That's why I asked the question. I appreciate everyone's response - thus far.

I have actually used them on hard rifle cases when transporting rifles for some distance. I wrap the cable around the case handle.

I don't go to that much trouble. I've got a book of receipts - old style you write on. Make myself a receipt. Take it and an unopened lock to the FFL and pick up my gun. One time the guy wanted me to open the lock package so now I keep an opened one in my pocket.

I got an A+ 102% in my art class I'm thinking everyone ship.me there's or meet me locally and I'll build some sort of art display that supports the 2nd ammendment. Perhaps build one so massive in middle of SF and have it structural design as a gun, probably would have to contact City officials for this but hey just an idea for a super duper art display and finally these locks have uses other than getting taxed by FFLs because they are sick and tired of PPTs

Give them to biker friends to use for helmet locks.
Most are keyed alike anyways, so they really are useless for any "security" issue... they simply help prevent a "grab and run" thing.

I put a couple though the tie down hold of my orca cooler so I can lock it to a larger cable lock in the back of truck without locking the lid of the cooler. They're one of the few types of locks that'll fit between the gap of the lid. They can be defeated easy but so far they have stopped at least one grab and run attempt. I do the same thing with guns inside a vehicle, cable lock them to a seat.

I like the helmet idea, I'll use that one.

If I have any unopened ones I just toss that in with my next gun sale. Some FFLs will use them as required for the buyer if they're unopened.
I did this with and the FFL checked the lock's model and told us it was not an approved lock (it was the same lock which came with the pistol, had the old Sturm-Ruger logo and wording on it)

Because it was not an approved, they had to keep it, by California law.

They are NOT required... nor legally allowed to take your personal property. If they won't accept it as being valid for a transfer, that's fine, but they are not under any legal requirement to keep it.

As usual with California, there is a meshing of Federal and California law involved and there is a conflict.
Federal law states that trigger locks must be provided for handguns.
California law states that the trigger lock must have been purchased within the last 30 days *OR* the purchaser may complete a safe affidavit.
Federal law does not recognize the California Safe Affidavit for handguns.

I've done a number of PPTs, even at Turners, and have never had a problem using the lock that the gun came with, even the Ruger padlock.
