Cable Gun Locks (FSD)

If you buy guns in California, you know that DOJ requires a CA approved Firearms Safety Device (FSD) to be included with your purchase. Yeah, those cable gun locks.

I have a bunch sitting around, my FFL has a box of them, and most people I know (like me) keep their guns either locked up in a safe or on/near them at all times.

Curious, what do you do with those cable locks?

They sit in a small pile, in or by the safe.

They're actually decent general use looks. They're flexible enough to wrap around the handle of something and still be able to lock. I keep the ones I opened around for that reason.

If I have any unopened ones I just toss that in with my next gun sale. Some FFLs will use them as required for the buyer if they're unopened.

use them for transport for extra safety when the range checks your guns to make sure they are not loaded, when they see a cable lock on your gun they know it's safe.

If buying a USED firearm, I go to Walmart and buy one of those locks. I bring it to the FFL, and after the transaction has been completed, I return it to Walmart for a full refund.

I have found them very handy for a variety of uses. Good secondary bicycle lock. I use a couple to keep my garage cabinets locked. I carry one in each car to lock travel cases in place. Lots of uses other than firearm safety.

I use them to lock my roll up garage doors when we go away. Keeps bad guys from forcing open the garage door or jamming the opener.

Can you reuse them on a future firearm purchase or are they serial numbered and tagged to a firearm purchase making them one time use?
