Why Won't People Sell to CA?

We all know those occasions when you really want that one rifle you've been eyeing for a while now but nobody has them in stock. Then you finally find one out of state for a decent price and you contact the seller. Once you tell them you're from CA they freak out and refuse to make the sell. I've even asked to pay for the supplies and labor to make the gun CA compliant before shipment but again, the answer is always no.

Why is this? Do people not want to make a sale for a little extra effort or are they scared of our corrupt lawmakers and .gov?

BTW, the rifle in question is a Beretta ARX 100

If you’re buying from an individual or a small mom & pop retailer, they probably don’t want to go through the hassle, even if you are willing to pay for the conversion parts and labor. Plus, they probably don’t want to deal with having to be knowledgeable about all the stupid laws here in commiefornia, and the potential trouble they could get into for selling you a noncompliant gun.

Some of the larger shops are willing to convert rifles. Atlantic firearms, etc.

The big guys like Atlantic Firearms keep abreast of different states' laws in order to make the sale.

Little FFLs like pawn shops only know that NY, CA and others have strange complicated laws, definitions and rosters and don't have the know how or patience or time to fully research them and therefore make an executive decision to sell absolutely nothing to those states..Including parts

They miss the sale? Yes but plenty of demand from the other states that can buy anything in an unaltered form.

They don't need the hassle or the business.

LaRue Tactical is a perfect example, No complete rifles will be sold to people in California. Makes me sad.
Not necessarily true. While Larue was pretty anti California in the past, there was a section in time they were willingly shipping whole rifles in... I was able to purchase an entire rifle from them in 2016. They only recently halted sales after gunmageddon 2017.

Not wanting to do business with CA, while understandable is simply an excuse and a bit of sour grapes. Money talks and anyone who says they are doing it out of principle is lying. I bet they turn down dates from hot, high maintenance womenout of principle too?? Or turn down a Porche because it is just got so bad gas mileage.

              1. Laws are too confusing people out of state are scared that they may inadvertently mess up.

              2. They don't want to do the compliance mods (see #1).

              3. They simply don't want to deal with the CFLC paperwork.

I have been given excuse #3 point blank quite a few times.

It's not just guns ammo. Many businesses are just avoiding California all together. Hell even ebay sellers avoid it.

                  Extra paper work

Many out of state companies have to use and fill out extra paper work and they don't want to deal with it.

CAs gun roster changes all the time and they don't want to worry about keeping up on the list.

                  Lastly, it's CA.

Well that sucks. You all are probably right in some degree or another. I think its dumb that people don't want to do a little extra work for the business but hey, free country and such

Because we let the leftists take over this state and they are punishing us for it. As if we don't feel bad enough.

Offer to pay double the advertised price, and also promise to pay the legal fees in case they get prosecuted. And put it all in writing. Then maybe they will sell to you.

Nah, they probably still won't do it.

How much reach does CADOJ even have to people out of state?

And it is not only gun laws. We also can't have nice stuff because of Prop 65 and CARB rules.

Not true... for a long time they had a policy of not blocking mags for CA buyers, they just kept the mags if you purchased a +10 mag rifle from them. They refused to listen to reason? Only recently did they finally start blocking mags...

This always irked me about them, and I bought many rifles elsewhere because of it....

There are several CA supportive companies out there, and I will continue to support them even when I leave here.
