If you can’t hit a 24 inch x 48 inch silhouette paper at distances found in an indoor range then any electronic doodad isn’t going to help.

          No.
Just remove the upper from the lower and remove the bolt carrier group.
Place the upper on a set of bags pointing at a 50yd target.
Center your eye behind the bore by ensuring that you see equal amounts of rifling all the way around the bore as you are looking at the target through the bore.
It is of utmost importance that the target is centered in the bore WHILE your eye is centered in the bore.
Then adjust the reticle until it's on target.
Go back and forth between the scope and bore to ensure they are pointing to the same place.

I purchased a fairly expensive one, and the only place it works decently is in my garage, with the lights off.

The laser isn't strong enough to be seen well at a 25 yard indoor range.

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

Put the boresighter in your barrel/chamber and spin it without moving the rifle.
If it makes a circle, then it is off by the radius of the circle.
The laser should hit the same point as you rotate it if it's aligned with your bore.

I have had a few people bring those laser boresighters over and when I spun them, they would draw a 12" circle on the wall at 8ft from the muzzle.
That works out to being off by over 18ft at 100yds.
I have often been within 6" at 100yds using only my eye looking down the bore.
I have never gotten that close with an optical bore sighter or a laser bore sighter.

If your laser is actually true to the bore and you use it in a garage at such short distance like 8-12ft, you need to be setting the crosshairs on the scope above the bore centerline by whatever your scope centerline is over your bore centerline.
