I shot at a 3/4" thick steel drilling cap on a pole. 7.62x39 steel ammo put a 1/2" deep hole into it but did not penetrate.

Found more info on the FN API.

Original .50 cal. FN API silver tip match grade quality, these are a very rare collectors item, made by FN Belgium, headstamp FN 66, non corrosive, reloadable brass. We heard this ammo was high quality but to be safe we sent some out to H. P. White Laboratories to have it tested for pressures and velocities. Average pressure was 48,300, average velocity 2,884. Deviation in velocity between ten rounds was only 15 feet per second. This tight of a spec. is usually found in Match grade ammunition. A copy of the test results will be included with every order.
I have a nice pile of the stuff.

How about using those metal trays we had at the Mess Hall at MCRD?

Can't do that, some of the Ladies might get upset if too much of the chow sloshes thru the 50 cal hole(s) and splashes onto the deck before they can get to the table in time.

Buy the full iPda 1/2" ar 500 plate at ims (industrial metal supply). I put at least 400 rounds of 690 grain Fmj at 2700 fps on mine. Looks brand new. The plate is $100.00 on special. Also shot it with 750 grain Lehigh solids. No problem. Black top however goes right through.

Seems like if the plate still looked like new against ball, that it would stand up better to AP. Did you see it happen, or just an educated guess?

Just the weight of something that could hold up would be a haul.
