Something VERY interesting happend to me today...

so im sitting in my living room today watching a movie and all of the sudden a car pulls into my driveway fast. two black males get out and and it seems like the are about to rush my house. one of them cuts across my lawn and is out my my line of sight so i RUN to my room and grab my shotgun and my brother yells "what are you doing in my driveway" by this time im locked and loaded ready for whatever and the guy says "does Tameka live here" and my brother says no and they run back to the car and speed off..

so here is my question why they hell would they cut across my lawn like they are about to invade my home and did i over react by grabbing the shotgun as fast as i did? (they didnt see the gun at all)

No, you reacted properly. Better to be ready than caught with your pants down.

This is a tactic a lot of burglers use... Also people will randomly knock on a lot of peoples doors at all different times of the day to see when people are home to figure out their schedule. And if u answer the door they will just ask some dumb question or ask for fake directions or something...

You guys shouldn't have said anything and just sat on the couch with the shotgun pointed at the door

              +1 on this.

Keep your eyes open they may have been probing to see if you are a soft target. Clearly you are not if you are here and have a 12 ga at the ready

As far as over-reacting, well that's a matter of opinion. I feel you and your brothers response was equal to what you saw happening. You didn't burst out the front door wielding your shotgun in your undies and drawing beads on the children in the neighborhood so therefore in my opinion, well done.

+1 on a good response. You sensed the potential danger, armed yourself in response, maintained good concealment while observing and evaluated properly.

If you had proned them out on the front lawn for asking if Tameka was there, that might have been a little much.

In my humble opinion, doing that is just escalating the situation and inviting trouble. The threat was leaving, no need to give them a reason to take a few parting shots.

OP you done good! Did you get the plates?

yep, because odds are they are just a couple of idiots that really didn't know where they were. Like I said you come out the front door like Elliot Ness raiding a moonshine shack and all hell breaks loose there is a very good chance you'll end up cuffed and stuffed in a squad car. You did the right thing! Someone shouldn't know you have a firearm until you are shooting at them with it. That's when all bets are off and it is clear that they, whomever "they" are, is there to do you and yours great bodily harm.

Similar thing happened to me last summer.

I was playing with my new holster in the garage trying to figure out best position and angle. I heard some people walking up my driveway. I didnt recognize the voices but they didnt sound like any of the kids in the neighborhood. My fiancee was in the house so she answered the door but did not open the gate.

I came in from the garage with gun in holster on my hip and listened to these two guys proceed to give my lady some speech about them selling candy to raise money and could they come in to show her the info on the program they were trying to fund. *spidey sense tingled* I excused the little lady and asked if I could help them. One was a young black man not that much younger then me and the other was a scruffy white kid not to far past his teens. They looked at me and I could tell they were sizing me up then saw the gun and all confidence faded.

I asked what kind of candy they were selling and where exactly it was because I couldnt see it. I was told that they didnt have the candy on them but they took orders. I followed up with wanting to place a order and could I see the order sheet. The white kid said his phone was ringing and had to take the call.

After both of them left I called the cops and they were picked up a few houses down. From what the police officer told me there was a outbreak in b&e's and these were possibly the scouts for the guys doing it.
