    Barrel Crowning Feedback

I have a Browning High Power Tactical that I felt was well below the accuracy level of what other BHP owners were reporting.

I decided to take the plunge and have the barrel crowned as well as having new sights put on. Long story short, the weapon went from an accuracy level of a 7 to a level accuracy of a 10.

This is my first time getting a barrel crowned. After complaining to my LGS about it's accuracy he convinced me to give it a try.

To be honest I really didn't expect much in the way of improvement. The repair out performed my wildest dreams. I have since taken a 2nd handgun in for barrel crowing.

Just wanted to share my experience.

What is barrel crowing? I would have assumed "crowning" but since you typed it your way 4 times I assume you mean it your way.

OP, this is very interesting to me. I've often read on the site about paying attention to the crown and not damaging it.

I've seen the youtubes where they demonstrated barrel crown damage doesn't affect accuracy.

Though if you're shooting 2" groups off hand at 25 yards, then yeah get the performance package.

If you're shooting 5" groups at 15 like me, your equipment isn't the problem, you are. Keep practicing until you figure it out.

I’ve seen interesting results on this. I’ve seen several videos of guys cutting down barrels to find the ideal length without bothering to crown with excellent accuracy. But in my personal experience I’ve shot my .22lr and suddenly the accuracy goes to hell. A quick rub of carbon off the crown and it’s tack driving again. So I guess as long as it’s even it’s GTG.

"Barrel Crowing" is when you brag loudly about the accuracy or your gun.
