artifex that runs out of prado olympic range in chino hills.

they have a beginners class that provides guns + ammo (or you can bring your own gun for a slight discount in class cost.)

they have an upcoming beginner class on June 10th.

edit: it seems their signups are a big wonky, as when you click the sign up for the june 10th class, the page redirects to the signup for may 12th. probably just give them a call to confirm.

I would suggest some professional tactical handgun training to give you a sound weapons manipulation skills foundation. Direct Action Group teaches at Burro Canyon Shooting Range. These guys are extremely knowledgeable, professional and respected having spent over 30 years teaching Military / LE / civilians small arms tactics. The Tactical handgun I/II should give you the basic skill set you need to both be competent and confident in Home / self defense.

****Regardless of where you go for training, the resume's / professional experience of the instructors is what you want to see as their background is what validates the training you are going to pay for.****

              Tactical Handgun level I objectives:
              SAFETY
              Tactical Presentations
              Stationary Turns
              Tactical Reloading
              Kneeling Fire
              Steel Shooting
              Use of Cover
              Combat Course of Fire
              3-20 yrd Scored Evaluation

              Tactical Handgun level II objectives:
              Concealment Presentations
              Speed Loading
              Stoppage Drills
              Casualty Arm Fire
              Casualty Arm Reloads
              Movement drills
Obstacle & timed courses of Fire
              5-25 yard Scored Evaluation

              The school:
Direct Action Group provides the highest level of cutting edge instruction in the most up to date and progressive firearms skills and tactics for military, law enforcement and private sector personnel. this is kinda what i feel the guys at Artifex is missing on their website.

they have zero profile info, and the only way to know their backgrounds is to take a class and ask them.

My view is that if they have professional credentials that qualify them to be teaching, they will list them. If they are not available to review in advance, chances are they are just gun enthusiasts trying to make a living shooting guns. For all you know, they just got a lot of tacti-cool stuff and watched a lot of YouTube videos from guys who do have the creds. I know a few "instructors" like that. They may be teaching technique correctly and they may be effective but if I am paying for "professional training" I want to be "trained by professionals"...

I ALWAYS checked out the resumes of college professors before taking a class. I have done the same with my firearms training.

At this stage, you don't need "tactical" training. If you overwhelm your wife at the start, she will probably not go ahead. You want to start with the basics--SAFETY, grip, stance, trigger control, etc. Many, many people have been lost because they started with a 9mm or 45. Your self defense pistol is probably a poor choice for a new woman shooter. Start with a 22, 380 or 38spl. The bigger and heavier the better.

I wonder where you saw this. Their live fire shoot house has 5 rooms with furniture, controlled lighting and 270 degree direction.
