Some of these shooting ranges need to apply ORM

Yup. We have a range up here in Sac that operates with zero safety precautions. Chamber checking in the lobby, no RSO's, "thugs" doing stupid things in the range, selfies, walking up to the line with loaded guns, etc...

Here's one that I found off of Social media tagging The Gun Range...

I had that happen once, I just put the gun down and went fishing for the casing.

I once informed the employees of the antics inside the range and their response was, "What can we do?"

I've never once set foot in that range again. Seriously, they had bullet holes in the ceiling and floors of their lobby let alone behind the firing line inside the ranges.

You forgot the part where 50% of the clients reek of weed.

Of course, my mistake. I recall another time prior when some guy pulled a carry handle A2 AR (mag in and rifle fully exposed) out of his trunk then walked right in at low and ready.

That in itself is not the range's fault, but the concern was that not one employee said anything.

This was about the time that I was still a newb to the gun world. I wasn't aware enough to react appropriately like a deer in the headlights. Imagine what influence that would have had on an impressionable newb. "I'll just walk right on in to any range that way."

I've had hot brass go down my shirt, get stuck in my collar, even get in my hair next to my goggles near my eyes.

It was hot and it bothered me, but ZERO times did I even think about hopping around like a four year old. Man up.

Iv'e had hot brass go down the front of my shirt, the back of my shirt, lodge against my face behind my glasses and always felt that keeping my cool was part of the training. I was at the local range on a warm evening and was starting to sweat...after a while I could feel the sweat really starting to run down my forehead while I was shooting. When I stopped shooting and set my gun on the table in front of me, I wiped my forehead with my hand and it was covered in blood! Apparently a fragment of a copper jacket ricocheted back and hit me in the forehead! The idiot in the first video wasn't wearing glasses either, I can only imagine the mayhem he could have caused if a fragment hit one of his eyes...I wouldn't shoot at a range that that didn't enforce the most basic of safety rules, like wearing eye protection.

I go to this range from time to time and yes, it's exactly like you describe it. Lots of groups of giggling fools and their friends, all sharing a lane, doing mag dumps, walking back and forth to the line with loaded guns. I like the place but the clientele and lack of RSOs is scary. Gonna spend less time there.

Go to Sac Valley Shooting Center if you want to see range safety done right.
