Here we go again . . . . .
Joe, I don't have a 40, but I'll bet there'll be a bunch of 40 fans along soon to argue that it's not dying.
Wait for it. . . . . .sigpic -
Dead dying, breathed its last gasp. Sell me your 40s cheap!!!
I dont know where its going but I have gotten 2 off roster .40 NIB cheaper than they could have been bought in a free state. Please continue speaking of its demise.
Like anything its not going away but therell be a smaller selection of it available at the storesLast edited by ac398; 05-04-2018, 1:41 PM.sigpicComment

There are only a handful of folks that enjoy shooting the .40, including myself. I can only speak about my reasons and it is because I am a recoil junky, meaning I enjoy the challenge of trying to master quick follow up shots. It's the challenging aspect of it for me that makes it enjoyable as I believe .40 is snappier than .45. I think .40 is harder to control vs. a .45, so if and when I am really able to control the recoil with faster follow up shots of a .40 pistol, I'm sticking with .40s. .40 is punishing, especially compared to shooting a 9mm, but it makes bigger holes than a 9mm. Don't get me wrong as I do have more 9mm pistols than I do .40, but I think .40 is fun!Last edited by smak28; 05-04-2018, 1:51 PM.sigpicComment

You can look at the volume of sales for various calibers to gauge "popularity." That's about the only objective comparison you can make between two similar rounds.
Is .40 less popular than 9? Sure. Is it more popular than 5.7? Sure. If you want to know where it stands currently, you have to find out how well it sells.
Everything else is just a personal preference.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

Caliber is like flavor of the month these days. “9mm ballistic performance has improved so much that the 40 is worthless. 40 is too snappy and it hurts my wrist. But 10mm is awesome!” Irony.
Five years from now, 10mm will go back into its hole. But after I probably get a Glock 20SF.LA County CCW Renewal Progress

My G27 is a little snappier than shooting 9mm, but I don’t find it hard to manage or unenjoyable to shoot..Comment

I tried to convince them .40 still had it's place. But seriously just convert that 4 tenths of an inch to metric and you're all set. Seems everyone is back to loving the 10.
