Optomestrist for shooting glasses??

I wear reading glasses (+1.75 in both eyes). Without glasses the front sight of my pistol is fuzzy. With my glasses the front sight is sharp BUT it is not practical to wear my reading glasses while shooting. I tried a pair of glasses with 1.75 lens in my dominate eye and a clear lens with no correction in my other eye but that did not work.

Any ideas????

I had my Optometrist set up my left eye for distance and my right eye to focus on the front sight. She had me bring in my unloaded pistol and made measurements while I was pointed in at a target. When shooting, the front sight is very clear. Looking beyond the front sight with my dominant eye, everything becomes blurry. Hope this helps

Why not progressive lenses?

While I'm not there yet, my eye doctor has said that I will most likely have this issue in 7-10 years. She knows that both my wife and I are shooters, and will comment about how changes in our vision will reflect shooting. She's very good with kids as well. If anyone in the bay area is looking for a 2A/shooter friendly optometrist, give Dr. Amy Chi a shot. She's very good, and very good-looking too.

Instead of cheating with the reading glasses, you need to get a proper eye exam because you need your daily wear glasses and your shooting prescription.

I shoot irons (pistol and rifle) and have dedicated scripts depending on the sight radius of the rifle and pistol.

Do you shoot action-style or bullseye? I'm asking that question since your shooting discipline may/will affect your how you use your shooting script.

USPSA and IDPA. I did have an eye exam and they do not know how to make glasses To be able focus of my front sight and still be able to run around .

Your script is similar to mine but my CYL is -1.00, being nearsighted

Here's the thing: the shooting script is dependent on the sight radius. That means that is the distance from the pistol's front sight to your aiming eye.

For me, that is about 24 or 25 inches or it's as long as the sight radius of a rifle length AR15. The lens power translates to +0.75 diopters. I added +0.75 diopters to my daily eyewear SPH. My shooting script works with rifle and pistol, 1911.

In your case, it looks like your eye doc already calc'd it for you for presbyopia, read under the PALS heading, that means progressive/multi-focal lens.

Correction - I misread your script. You have an ADD of +1.5, that's your presbyopia but under the PALS heading it looks like your eye doc calc'd your shooting script. Based on your shooting discipline, you may benefit by using progressive lens. Look into Randolph Engineering frames. FWIW.

My ophthalmologist advised me to bring a rifle and pistol for my yearly exam. His RX got me a very clear image of the front sights.

No surprises...he was a state champion rimfire silhouette shooter for a few years.

My optometrist is a shooter too, only long guns. He did the exam and fitted me with progressive lenses... wrong choice. I couldn't make him understand that I still had to tilt my head way back to be able to pick up the front site.

I'm trying "stick on bi-focals" now on an old pair of glasses I use to drive (dominant eye only). I'm trying 2.50 diopter. Static holds them on so there is no adhesive residue.
