Front Site Training Center in Navada

I have a chance to go to Front Site for the 4 day handgun training.
Has anybody here been to the training center ? If so, how was it ?

Great info in that thread. Short answer is you will have fun. Go with an open mind and incorporate what works for you. Had a great time and learned a lot. Well worth it he time and cost.

Stay for the fifth day and get your CCW.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

My nephew is an instructor there and my sister and her husband have been a couple of times and whole heartedly endorse it. The problem I have with it (and will probably never train there) is their list of handguns they do not allow, which would not allow me to train with my two primary EDC weapons (Sig P238, P938).

You'll have a great time. Check the weather before you go, check the Front Sight website for FAQ's, don't forget to book your hotel room in Pahrump NV, and you can buy your ammo there.

I actually used them for that a couple of years ago. They take care of fingerprinting and pics, help with filling the forms line by line and give you an envelope to mail everything required to the appropriate agencies. They will also do the firearms test portion for NV license.

For a Nevada license you have to make a personal visit to Nye county sheriff's office though. At the time I got it done NV did not recognize AZ so I got the NV license, now I'd just do AZ instead of NV as it is less effort.

It is the equivalent service of $250 - $350 multi state license stuff a lot of local vendors offer. Buying a Diamond membership from a Calgun person for $79 was money well spent just for the CCW process.

When I did mine a couple of years ago they had an assembly line set up. For Nevada you take a shooting and written test. As mentioned above, in the tent you go through the assembly line, fingerprints and notary. I did Utah and Florida to catch the rest of the reciprocity states which FS has the forms for. At the NYE County Sheriff's office you can get finger prints done for Florida or Utah, one of them needs to be done on Live Scan and I can't remember which it was. Hustle out of FS ASAP and head to the sheriff's office back in Pahrump, They stop taking CCW applicants at or before 2 PM and if you hurry along you should be able to leave FS around 12:30. Others from your class will also be heading there and if many show up they shut down the line early so the clerk can get them processed before leaving for the day.

As is mentioned above, I also did mine when Nevada wasn't as accepted by other states as it is now so the additional CCWs may not be needed.

The training is great for new shooters. They have softened the ciriculum over the past 15 years to make it really friendly for newer shooter and especially female shooters

The old skills test was difficult to Shoot at least 90% for the 4 day handgun.

The skills test is now easier as I don’t think they use turning targets, shooting at 25 yards, presentation from facing right, left and rear.

If you keep an open mind, you can learn a lot out there
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                          (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

I hope Calguns sends your FS buddy an advertising invoice.

The shooters that I know are too embarrassed to discuss...Nevermind, it's your money.

The training there is a great deal, as long as you aren't paying list price for it.

My membership cost me $89. Add a $50/year fee for the background and camping for free in the desert, and the training becomes worth it's weight in gold. A better deal the more classes I take.

I use FS classes as my own personal gun vacation.
