Had a good morning at Lytle Creek range...

This was my first visit there...

it's a bit of a drive to get there from Compton, but it's a decent range!

Rifle range out to 200 yards (sometimes 300, apparently, depending on fire hazard), pistols looked like they were out to 50 yards (?), and they have a "shotgun range" where you thrown your own clays downrange (ok, that kind of sucks...)

Staff were friendly, other shooters were not douchebags.

Two shooters and two target stands ran us... less than $50. Stands are $6 each, and are just two sticks with cardboard between them, so bring your own.

The range is VERY weather dependent, though. for a good part of the morning we couldn't even see our 200 yard target.

Also, the tables are very close to each other. We were practicing from sticks, and we were only able to use them by getting the right-most shootnig table, and shooting from the dirt to the right of our table. Otherwise, there's really no room for prone/seated/sticks shooting if you are not on the end of the row.

I like Lytle Creek Range. I've never had a bad experience there. Staff have been friendly and helpful. It's just a bit crowded on the weekends but that's to be expected.

Back in the day when it was a free for all, drinking beer while shooting illegal firearms was the norm out there. Insects were the only things flying across that wash as no bird or aircraft dared too. Automatic weapons and short barreled rifles/shotguns were commonplace.

That was a long time ago. I asked them once where the range is relative to the old wild west site, seems the range is further up from the old place.

My memory from the old days is that it's further up that dirt road from the current public range. Used to go there in the 80's, and it was just as bad as everybody says.

The public range is a nice place to shoot. Haven't been back since I became a member of WEGC though.

I was wondering why everyone there makes sure to tell you they are family friendly at every given opportunity... I figured they were trying to live down some kind of reputation.

I was busy trying not to run off teh road while being tailgated by a very angry sports car, but I was amazed how many ranges are on that road. There's Lytle Creek, West End Gun Club, and at least one more (pretty sure I saw a 4th sign)

Remember this range still as far as I know does not allow over 10 round magazines or even registered assault weapons. Make sure you know their policies before going there.

There is no such thing as an "assault weapon". I implore you not to fall into using the gun grabbers terms.

By CA laws there is definitely a definition of assault weapons and Lytle Creek policies do not allow the use of them.

And yes there is such a thing as assault weapons millions exist in the world,, just that antigunners tend to misuse the term.

I shoot RAWs there without out issue.
