    Haggling ~ Not CG's related

Nothing to do with the CG's market place ~

Has haggling died? Have an item posted on CL & many folks are interested, but instead of offering a price, I keep getting "what's the lowest you'll take"
I want to stress this is not a pissing post, rather has haggling died?!?

I've read a ton of CG's threads pissing about this, so this must be a thing in general...... Is the art of haggling dead?

I have no problem being "low balled" it's an offer, and as a seller I can take it or leave it. But do people actually think you'll shoot yourself in your own foot? Either it's working for people or haggling is a dying art. Millennials?

My answer always is that "I will not negotiate against myself."
In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.

Most of what I have sold on Craigslist is Kayaks, or related gear, along with a few tools.

I usually respond that I might be willing to negotiate, but the buyer has no idea if they are interested, or not, since they haven't seen the item, nor do they know if they even fit in it. So it would be a waste of both parties time to start that process before they have come to see it.

They either agree and come see it, or go away. I am fine with either response. I do this because it is a true statement on my part, it won't send away an interested buyer, but it stops those folks who 'never stop negotiating'.

I have learned that most people who start negotiating before they even see it, never stop. They get 'the lowest price you'll take' over the phone, then if they do show up, they start working you to lower that number. I have not the patience for those kind of slime balls, so I nip it in the bud up front.

When I sell I set the price low because im ready to sell it
But still get people who want me to give it away
That said ill not bother when price is just too hi to buy as l feel its just not worth the time as they will more than likely not come to a fair price off the off the wall price
          So no haggling for me.

I don't mind haggling. But I do get annoyed with hail mary low ball offers. It's why I stopped using sites/apps like OfferUp and even Craigslist.

For me, the worst is when you already agree to a price, then arrange and meet up, then try to haggle more. Or when you get an offer and accept the lower offer (even when your price says firm) and then you never hear from the person again.

If haggling is a dying art, flaking has surely taken its place.

When people ask me that question I usually just respond with my asking price and let them know that they are welcome to make a reasonable counter. Then again I used to work in collections, so 99% of that job was negotiations.

The lowest price I'll take is twice my asking price, why do you ask?

I hate haggling. I list my desired price, and I decide if I want something at the listed price. anything else is just a stupid waste of time IMHO.

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

                            Imagine Two Worlds ...

one of them everything is the set price and never to be haggled on.

The other world everything (including things like the toll bridge you drive through or fast food at the drive-thru) can be renegotiated with just a little bit of yakking and wasting some time.

Well, I think one planet would have higher rents and better property values.

What I'm trying to say is I don't mind a little bit of bargaining, whether I'm buying or selling, I just don't want to waste a lot of time on whatever process people think they need to "get a deal".

That's what it comes down to...people want to think they got a deal. So they've got to talk to you down a few dollars to think they got a deal.
Just calculate that into your asking price and just get the sale done quickly and painlessly.

I once sold a trailer on CL ~ a guy responded that he wanted it, to hold it for him, & he'd drive the 3 hours to pick it up the next day! He came, inspected the trailer, loved it & then asked "what's the lowest.........." I told him my original price, he got flustered & angry, he didn't know what to do ~ So he got in his truck and drove his 3 hours back home.
