The best private range I've ever seen was Paul Miller's. Beautiful house, a bunch of IPSC bays right in the backyard, and rifle and shotgun ranges across the road. It's right against federal land so nobody can buy next door and starting crap.
Curious why you said that about Arizona? So far all the properties we've been looking at that's not going to be a problem since they are 40 acres and above. There are some that have weird restrictions for sure but there are plenty that don't.

Look at how close his range is to the edge of his property. In AZ he would have to build his range at least 1/4 mile from his property boundary.

Mine sits in the middle of 40 acers in front of our cabin 100 yrds ,but we are surrounded by plenty of Private land & no neighbors with in 3\4 of a mile .it would really also depend on how many people you want your range to hold .

My buddy has over 40 acres of ag land in W. Texas, our private range. We set it up with steel targets, fire extinguishers, PVC target stands, reactive targets, etc.
Much better than the secret BLM spots I used to shoot at.

We have 3.3 acres that I could shoot on but I don't. We are surrounded by houses on 2 to 10 acres. One shot over any berm would not be good. Plus we have some animals. I wouldn't subject my neighbors to the noise. The most I would possibly consider would be to set uo a spot to chronograph some loads or sight in a pistol.

I belong to 2 private ranges where I can use a bay and set up what I want. One has a thousand plus yard rifle range. That's where we go to shoot. About 45 minutes away. We hear some ****s fired on New Years eve and occasionally a few during dove season but nothing regular.

They made a bunch of noises about lead leakage into the watershed and the costs of lead abatement but the bottom line is that was a smoke screen to obscure their real agenda, which was to shut the range down. Very disingenuous, very sneaky, very bravo sierra.
I live about a mile from the site of the Chabot range. Moved in the early 70's. Gunfire when the range was operating was noticeable, but not oppressively so (akin to, say, the airliners flying over on approach to OAK, which has also been complained about.) Fast forward 30ish years, and some guy bought a house in the area, and immediately complained to the EBRPD about the noise from the range. He was very vocal for quite a while, and I'm convinced he was a large part of the park deciding to shut it down.

The lead thing was just to garner public fear and opinion (in my estimation); I've never seen a report that listed any kind of contamination from a site other than the range itself (though I also haven't searched that out, either.)

BLM land is my private gun range. Whether it's the local mountains and desert or up at 12,000 feet in the San Juan mountains. It's all mine to access, no people, no complaints.

It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

And the garage has to have a high ceiling so you can put in a lift.

I wouldn't be surprised in kali if you had to get all sorts of approvals just like for any indoor range. Ventilation, backstop, etc. Plus there's the noise issue. I used to sit in my car and eat lunch every day. There was a commercial indoor range at least half a mile away, and I could easily hear them banging away.

Az laws on shooting same as Ca. No shooting within 150 yards of dwelling without permission. Says nothing about property lines. Some people should check before spouting bs,
